Thinking back of the people I have known who are photographers--persons who seek to capture in a picture what they see as the glory of a moment's most exquisite beauty--I find that these people are loners. They are people who are completely comfortable to stand alone. In fact, they prefer the company of their lens to any other company. Most of the time.
These photographers fearlessly capture dreams. Sometimes they do that despite their cameras.
There are days I have turned the dials and adjusted every possible measurement on my camera in the hopes of capturing what I see. Instead, I have captured some other reality. Usually, that is the world I have felt while looking at what I seem unable to report. That vast space between the heart and mind is the site of some very strange alchemy sometimes. So says the camera.
Some days, the camera insists on what is right and true and real. On these days, I wonder where I am. Nevertheless, the conversation is good and passionate and honest. And the colors manage to be warm.

Very scenic photos! I think you have raised an interesting point about photographers. For me some days are like that, but you never know if you don't turn the dials.

ReplyDeletelovely shots!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful captures and I can feel the love you have for this place -- you've done a terrific job of capturing that. Have a wonderful day, Sandy!

The camera rarely allows me to show what I see and certainly doesn't show what I feel. Sometimes I wish it would though. This is when I usually try to paint what I feel. Most times it doesn't translate. It just gives me an image that will trigger the feeling again. Happy SWF.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your thoughts on photographers. to be a photographers companion is not always an easy job, either one must be lost in the view themselves or enjoying a book or sketchpad while waiting. your photos are lovely Sandy.
ReplyDeleteWonderful narrative and stunning skies.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful captures. I fortunately have a friend that is crazy like me and we go out as much as we can to take photographs. In fact, if it wasn't for her, I'd be at home sitting around being depressed.
ReplyDeletePure Magic Sandy.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about being alone too.
A wise post that spoke to me. . .(LOL - usual with you, Sandy) But this one looked me in the eye.

Dream worthy shots, Sandy!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand what you meant Sandy...these are beautiful photos...your pictures always are.
ReplyDeleteWith a camera it is always very different. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat takes.
Spectacular views.
ReplyDeleteHi Sandy, I always trust your eye. Wonderful watery shots of the sky.
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful photos. I like your thoughts as much as I like your pictures.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you... there is alchemy and magic at work that we can't control. Sometimes it works with us and other times against us. When it's working with us, well, that's when things get really interesting!
ReplyDeleteThoughtful words. Looks as if both heart and camera were in synch when you took these wonderful shots.
ReplyDeleteOh I understand this totally. You stand looking at something amazingly spiritual and you want to capture it on film but the colors don't come back the same and then you get disappointed but sometimes they capture something you didn't see and then you get very excited to have found something you missed.
ReplyDeletePicture taking can be very rewarding.:)
And the words and images minister to my heart and mind!! You have captured the essence of the sky and the light it shares with us.

Lovely photos. I really like the blue in the first photo.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend =)
Wonderful post. The captures are beautiful. Anyone would be inspired to dream in these locations. Well done. Have a wonderful week-end.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos,
ReplyDeleteI know several almost famous authors. I've read that with authors their best conversations are in their head. For some reason your comments remind me of that.
I'm no photographer but I've taken a lot of grief for my fascination with toy film cameras. The only thing I can say in my defense is that the photos from them match what I see much closer than a digital camera does.
Awesome beautiful sky! Happy weekend!

Sandy, well said! and when you cannot capture the feeling in a photo, that's where poetry is born, and sometimes...you get both! Lovely series of photos. we are like minded this week. My Skywatch is also from the beach. I went birding on Plum Island this week! I hope you are well and smiling and that poetry is churning in your soul!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fantastic pictures and a very very wonderful sky light!! I think you are right about what you're saying.. You are good on putting words to it! :)
ReplyDeleteLovely captures.
ReplyDeleteYour talk of space between heart and mind lifted me there and to meditation for a while. Thanks.
Such a beautiful sunset! I saw one from a bus coming home from my hike the other day but was too tired to get off the bus and take photos and get the next bus. The neat thing is, there will be future opportunities, God willing! Come and visit my new blog. Getting used to my new internet provider and computer. . . one day I will have my blog up to date with info on sidebars again. . .
ReplyDeleteThanks for being here.
