This is St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Woodbury, Connecticut. I caught a picture of it one sunny weekday when I was out for a walk. Our Main Street is dotted with white clapboard churches. Though there are four denominations within half a mile of each other, the churches look the same. Take the signs down, and an outsider wouldn't know the difference between them. Essentially, there isn't any.

I love the look of the old wooden churches. In our neighbourhood, in a radius of about 1.5 kms I can call to mind 14 churches. Many of them dating back to the 19th century. Nice angle
ReplyDeleteWow! Now that is a blue sky--and I love the white church agains that sky. Great composition.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a lovely New England scene! BEAUTIFUL photo!!! =)

ReplyDeletegreat perspective, great image.
ReplyDeleteA beauty, Sandy. I do admire your angle. And, I agree about the buildings and content inside. The buildings all have to be maintained and yet everyone is still separating themselves from the next church.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful photograph!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely blue sky. The church contrasts beautifully against it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful photo!
ReplyDeleteI just love church roof lines/steeples with their bells and cross.
ReplyDeleteConnecticut definitely looks like it belongs in New England!
ReplyDeleteI bet if you ask a member of each congregation if they felt their church was essentially the same as the others, they'd disagree.
It's like Canadians being told by Europeans that they are very much like Americans. Ha!
perfect catch for SWF! Hope to see you around in my corner too..
ReplyDeleteGreat photo!
ReplyDeleteI really had difficulty with my post tonight.
ReplyDeleteBut it is my blog & in the end \I went with my gut feeling, which is quite sad now.

I love the white steeples against any sky, especially when the sun plays hide and seek with gray skies. Your photograph is gorgeous and I live in New England also, but I never get tired of seeing all the lovely churches. Karen
ReplyDeleteLovely image Sandy!
ReplyDeleteCan't help but think we should take those signs down anyway - in a perfect world I suppose.
Nice photoshot of SWF. The church looked very lovely too.

I'm always attracted by white clapboard buildings. Gives out a very country feel to them :)
ReplyDeleteLove the slanted viewpoint - like that of an ant, well, sort of.
ReplyDeleteThe sparkling white on the blue is so pleasant, and the idea of there being essentially no difference is all encompassing .Wonderful.
So clear! Its like a perfect day to have a walk and have a picnic!
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by my page and leaving a comment but my entry is actually this one http://mirageasusual.blogspot.com/2008/05/sky-watch-friday_23.html as it published at 12am this morning only =)
I just love old churches. Yours is perfectly juxtaposed against a gorgeous blue!
ReplyDeleteThat is a very beautiful shot. You have composed it well to capture a lot details.

ReplyDeleteBlue and white are always great together. MB
ReplyDeleteWow nice shot! The white church stands out magnificiently.
ReplyDeleteMine is a colorful temple.
that's a nice composition, sandy. i like how you balanced the church tower and tree. with the sky in between them.
ReplyDeletethat's great!
ReplyDeletei never seen a white church before.
Beautiful and calm shot.
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful! There are no colours like natures own. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely fantastic shot!
ReplyDeleteSo symbolic of a rocket waiting for blast-off.
ReplyDeleteA launch pad for the soul?
Greate photo for the Sky Watch. The building and the tree are complimented eatch other nicely!
ReplyDeleteLovely sky watch! I spent 5 weeks in Connecticut (East Canaan) in May 2006 - loved the church buildings and the towns and the contrast of the "age" of the northeast with the relative youth of the west. This photo brought all of that back - thank you!
ReplyDeletePretty flowering tree next the church. I love when the sun shines on white churches, or white buildings for that matter, especially the late afternoon sun. The blue sky seems to be a silent partner in bringing out the beauty of such a simple color as white.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, and I like the angle.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! The white church and tree bring out the blue of the sky.
ReplyDelete/Katarina
Perfect contrast! I love New England and this view is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
Lovely ...
ReplyDelete:-Daryl
This is a lovely photo!
ReplyDeleteIs that beautiful ! I have never seen a white church against a blue sky over here ! they usually are all dating from centuries ago and are in bricks.
ReplyDeleteWhite and blue make a soothing composition. Thanks to share it with a little explanation.
ReplyDeleteI also read your comments on other blogs, they're always personalized.
Stunning!
ReplyDeleteThere is something so magical about wood frame churches...
Your photo is wonderful!
Glad there are still steeples, of whatever denomination or none, that reach up toward the heavens.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were looking up for this picture.
Beautiful old church and the sky is so blue behind it. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteWOW, I really love this picture. Perfect shot.
ReplyDeletewooden churches just evoke such nice words in my mind --quaint-charming-trustful- I so love them, and you caught a great 'keep looking up shot'
ReplyDeletedon't we love the blue sky...? :)
ReplyDeleteLove the blue sky in this photo. Thanks for the visit.
ReplyDeletebeautiful!
ReplyDeletehappy weekend!
I love the church reaching for the sky
ReplyDeleteSo white and romantic. Look like it is waiting for the bride anf groom to come:)
ReplyDeletePetunia's SWF
the white church looks good against the blue sky
ReplyDeletethanks for your visit
That's a pretty building! I hope it is not too covetous to say that I kinda wish my own church looked more like a church. It was originally a school building. I totally wouldn't mind a steeple and stained glass.
ReplyDeleteI like the colors and that angle. Very nice.
White blossoms, white steeple, blue, blue sky. That's great.
ReplyDeleteI like the steeple in the sky. A feel good picture I love it!
ReplyDeleteThat is exquisite. October blue sky with spring flowering tree.
ReplyDeleteThe colors are lovely.
ReplyDeleteOh Sandy, this one is gorgeous. I love the composition and the colors are wonderful! Of course, I love all your photos :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful little church! Great angle!
ReplyDeletevery nice shot!
ReplyDeletethanks for coming to my Photoblog
I love how you took the picture Sandy. Beautiful
ReplyDeleteLovely colours. Our beautiful blue sky makes such a pretty background for your white church.
ReplyDeleteNice. Harmonious and serene.
ReplyDeleteA do like the 'texture' that church has: nice surface!
And the whiteness -- it seems to be infectious: the pine is getting white, too :)
That is a lovely shot with the white building and the white flowers. Beautiful photo.
ReplyDeleteSandy, a truly beautiful capture. I love the perspective, and the tree frames it beautifully! It seems to send it back to Him... you know the one church should be all about... but they sometimes miss the point...
ReplyDeleteWonderful shot. The sky is so blue.
ReplyDeleteYou've a great eye, Sandy, and can capture what seems like a warm, beautiful day during a month when we haven't had too many of those. If only churches were as inviting as this image makes this one seem.
ReplyDeleteNice angle shot against that blue sky!
ReplyDeleteGreat angle and haven't seen a white clapboard church before!
ReplyDeleteGreat post and photo Sandy. What a beautiful white church. Lovely scene
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous old church Sandy. I love the ideas of the signs being taken down too. We're all in this together, aren't we? And not just the church-going folk.
ReplyDeleteHuggs, G
PS Love the music over here, so tranquil and soothing!
Thanks for being here.
