A year or so ago I bought this hibiscus to my parents' house. They've done right by it, and it has thrived through all the mad, made weather that makes Connecticut such a delightful place to be this year (if you like the weather report to be the daily cliff-hanger). This blossom was flirting with the big ferny thing next to it, so this morning when I stopped by I crept up from behind, paparazzi style, and took a few shots.

I like hibiscus and they came with different color. Nice shot with this one thanks for sharing!

I have a white one that everyone admires. The leaves have all fallen now till the Spring.

I love this flower and I am so unhappy it doesn't last long. We had one in our house for a long time and when it would bloom a flower we were ecstatic.I used to call it my Chinese rose because it was a double bloom. This one is so hard to find to buy.

ReplyDeleteHere in the tropics, Hibiscus can just be planted and not taken care of, they will just tend for themselves. They never fail to produce flowers as well whole year. That red color can be seen anywhere even on roadsides. So the red is not saleable anymore, but those hybrids with different and unusual colors are expensive too.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, Sandy! You know, it's our national flower. They bloom incessantly and they are everywhere all year round. Various shades of reds,whites,orange and yellow.I didn't know they are available in Connecticut!

We had all colors of hibiscus - red, rose, white and other varieties in our garden when I was growing up.. I especially love the stalk of this flower. thanks for sharing the photos..

ReplyDeleteThe flower looks beautiful ! I have bought a whole bag of dried flowers in Egypt, they make a wonderful tea with it. It's called Karkade and it's the national drink.

That's what you call a real green thumb, being able to keep a tropical plant alive in your climate. Way to go mom and dad!
