Here's a recent sunset near home in Woodbury, Connecticut. That was an end to a hot day. After I took the first photo, I realized how close I was to the pine tree in the second shot. So often when I am outside I am so focused on where I am going that I don't see where I am--and I often get a smack on the head or poke in the eye from whatever I am missing. I laughed at myself when I realized how close I was to doing that again and got myself a good, friendly look at the pine needles.

Most intriguing photos Sandy. The second one almost had me fooled, thinking that those were plam fronds in the shadows. As I read your post I see what almost gotcha.
ReplyDeleteHi Sandy. I like the second shot!
ReplyDeleteWow. Just ... wow. These are truly spectacular, Sandy. I mean almost other-worldly. Bravi Signora, bravi!
ReplyDeleteI very much like the leaves in front of the moon in the top shot. The colour is GREAT in both photos. Unfortunately, I understand all too well how someone can concentrate on the subject and not see what's around you. OUCH!
ReplyDeletefun study on focus, we do that too often in life.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture, and a great story.
ReplyDeletegreat pictures..
ReplyDeleteit does happen when we are concentrating..we miss things around..

I love that second shot Sandy but I'm glad you were none the worse for it :) The first one is also very beautiful. It must have been a lovely evening walk.
ReplyDeleteI love the first shot, a lovely autumn sky!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love how you can see the outline of the leaves across the sun!
ReplyDeleteWonderful shot. The same thing happens to me. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous shots, Sandy! And like James, the same thing happens to me!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

My sunset pictures never come out. Yours are so nice.
ReplyDeleteThe sky and the sun in such beautiful colour :-)
ReplyDeleteSandy I really like the first one. Love the colors. That color red is really pretty.
ReplyDeleteWell, you got a good shot along with your poke in the eye. Glad to hear someone else admitting to doing this. I have several times.
ReplyDeletethese photos are really special!
ReplyDeleteBoth are beautifully mysterious! I'm constantly getting poked in the eye by wayward branches and tripped by roots, and of course it's never MY fault. It's those trees out to get me.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one getting poked in the eye---though I'm also quite good at falling into ditches too LOL
ReplyDeleteThat first shot is magnificent; I love the silhouette and the colour. Hello autumn!
Yeah, that's happened to me as well.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, nice job!
Hehe, so funny of you Sandy...Those are great shots anyway, with or without smacks...
ReplyDeleteI love the bokeh in that second one.
ReplyDeleteGlad you didn't have to actually suffer for your art this time.
Great colour for sky watch friday, thanks for sharing your view with us all.
ReplyDeleteI have your problem when I am cutting the grass on the lawn tractor an it hurts when you forget to duck!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots.

The color is awesome...the second one is nicely done! Love the bokeh!
ReplyDeleteI love the first shot, it is so romantic!
ReplyDeleteEbie's Skywatch and 300th Post.
the second shot is artsy, i like it very much. Not realizing where you are, I have that too, but now I'm finally learning to pay more attention as you do too.
ReplyDeleteTho' I am always whining about the heat & humidity there's nothing quite like the sun's last gasp on those day, is there?
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at your 'athleticism' since I'm always hoping no one sees me do much the same!
A very shy sun; look it's even blushing so much!
ReplyDeleteHi Sandy!
ReplyDeleteI love the first photo... it's frame-worthy!
the commentary for the second one is great! What a metaphor for other situations in life ;o)
love it!

These are both great but the second shows an unusual perspective. A shot most of us would not think to take.
ReplyDeleteIt took my by surprise when you said it was hot. That photo to me was like autumn. Lovely photo whatever the temp!
ReplyDeleteLove those sky shots and colours.
ReplyDeleteNice, Sandy. I'm glad you escaped uninjured, but surely it's worth the risk to get such lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteAmazing burst of colour.
ReplyDeleteSydney - City and Suburbs
Thanks for the reminder! Love the color in the first shot, great framing.
ReplyDeleteYou did an outstanding job capturing these beautiful scenes. Just watch where you are going better next time.
ReplyDeleteLove the first on Sandy, all that is missing is a bat or two and my broomstick.
ReplyDeleteBoth great shots!
ReplyDeleteThese are stunning shots.
ReplyDeleteboth of these pics wonderful! They are both "frame worthy" I think we have all been so consumed by the shot we are trying to get we tend to forget about the little things like trees and branches! LOL. thanks for the great shots my dear friend
ReplyDeleteThese shots are so rich and romantic.
ReplyDeleteLoved your comment on being so focused on where you are going that you don't see where you are. How many of us go through life that way. Always working toward something in the future and not enjoying today.
ReplyDeleteThat first shot is MASTER!!
ReplyDeleteAloha New England!
Comfort Spiral
Magnificent shot. Lovely glow of the Sun.
ReplyDeletebeautiful
ReplyDeleteFantastic images, Sandy! I felt transported... and your explanation was a hoot. How many times have I done that?! :)

These are poetic images, Sandy: I like them so much!
ReplyDeleteutiful capture of the setting sun through the trees!
ReplyDeleteBoth great from a different emphasis. Think I like first one best though!
ReplyDeleteThat first one looks like an eye looking down. Very mysterious.
ReplyDeletesoothingly gorgeous
ReplyDeleteThe color is stunning!
ReplyDeleteMy SWF
Fabulous color and perfect framing! Happy SWF and happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteSandy: What a neat look at the sunset and what was right in front of you.
ReplyDeleteI love both these shots! I have the same issue with getting stabbed in the eye or hitting me head, because I am always looking through the camera!
ReplyDeleteYou were able to get such an intimate view of those pine needles--very beautiful. But I understand, Sandy, when you speak of being focused on where you're going and missing where you are. That happens to me when I hike in the woods. It also happens to me in walking the path that is my life. Nothing like a poke in the eye to remind me where I am right now.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree, I love taking photos but I sometimes find myself missing what is right in front of me. Beautiful captures.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and smiles
Beautiful photo of the sun setting. Love the way you capture the sun slowly peeping from behind those trees. Have a nice weekend, Sandy.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and lovely shots !! THanks for sharing the beauty !!Great post..Unseen Rajasthan
ReplyDeleteLovely warm shot of the sun retiring. I also do that, look afar and bump into things or trip over things.
ReplyDeleteSun and trees Oh My
ReplyDeleteBeautiful night shots, amazing colors.
ReplyDeletevery pretty; i like how it seems to melt into the background
ReplyDeleteSo funny that you got completely caught up in your 'work'! Glad you put up with a few pine needles to get this great shot.
ReplyDeleteHey, I poke myself in the eye all the time. :) Pretty sky through those needles though!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colours in that first shot.. and your pine needle experience made me laugh. I do that all the time too. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for being here.
