For the past few weeks My World Tuesday has for me been full of snow and ice. I had sought to add a little variety to spice up life for this week. Alas, the best I could do was to capture an image of the strange dialogue between warmth and winter that begins at the end of every Connecticut January and ends with winter's having the last word. To thaw or not to thaw, my dear? The answers yes and no come simultaneously and leave us with water that is and is not frozen on a landscape that sometimes conceals moving streams or ribbons of ice. You don't know until you fall through.

The first picture, in particular, is really cool (pun intended) because it has that element of the abstract that you are often able to capture in nature.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful wintry photos, and words to live by! Thanks Sandy!
ReplyDeleteto thaw or not to thaw...funny yet illustrative of the yearning for spring that is in each of us.
ReplyDeleteAll these pictures are beautiful, but I especially like the first one.
ReplyDeleteCool - a psychological post! ;)
ReplyDeleteGood one!
Cheers, Klaus

These photos make it look cold up there Sandy. The first one looks like a woman lying in the snow to me,the second photo seems to be leading us to the third photo of best friends with their heads together swapping stories about how to stay warm. How's that for looking at these photos with psycho eyes. tee hee...
ReplyDeleteIt is very pretty... but I'd have to pass on walking around with all that snow and ice! I can remember ice skating on the frozen lake as a child and never giving it a second thought... now I would never give it a first thought!
ReplyDeleteNot knowing about the dangers until you fall through the ice seems to be a pretty good metaphor for life in general. It seems as thought we're always on thin ice of some sort or the other.....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos and thoughts from a beautiful mind.
Such beautiful scenery. You could'nt be tired of it already ? :D
ReplyDeleteOh but the lines and shades that shape the battle is so very beautiful. They create maps for my mind to wander in. I love looking through your eyes ... how divine!
ReplyDeleteSplash -- great photos.
ReplyDeleteI love to see your snowy winter pictures, the first photo is outstanding.
ReplyDeleteNature is being very awkward and indecisive there :-)
ReplyDeleteBut beautiful pictures.
Beautiful shots but I know it can be treacherous walking on ice, not knowing what's solid and what's not. When I first saw psychological test and the first shot, I thought it was like an ink blot test. As in, what does this ice image look like to you. I thought, hmmmm, that looks like a two headed mythological creature. Then I realized the test was about falling through or not.
ReplyDeleteFantastic shots of winter in Conn. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteCheers!

Transition phase... do take care while you cross these paths. Pictures are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen one drop of ice except in my freezer Sandy. It is there year round. Pappy
ReplyDeletesuch wonderful pics, with such great composition and effect use of lighting
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful photo's. Thanks for sharing your part of the world with us.
ReplyDeleteTake care
Wouldn't be fun to all in that cold water. Great photos of ice and snow.
ReplyDeleteSandy: You did a neat capture with the shimmer on the first shot.
ReplyDeleteThere is definitely beauty in the argument!
ReplyDeleteThese images are beautiful. I think that time between thaw and completely covered are the prettiest.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful sequence of photographs.
ReplyDeleteThree very fine compositions, Sandy.
Stunning shots, just lovely.
ReplyDeleteWow! Those are beautiful photos of winter. Rare picture for us liviing in the tropics.
ReplyDeleteGreat choices actually, Sandy! The pictures truly represent that kind of scene around your side of the world. We do not experience these images in the Philippines, so this is always a treat to all of us living in the warm tropics!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandy!
Photos that make you think about how strange life is. Nothing is sure!
ReplyDeleteHope you didn't fall in. I don't trust ice much. Once is one time too many to have ice cold water pour into your boots. ;-)
ReplyDeleteNo Snow or frost here ... just rain and grey skies in Wiggers World today. To top it all we have just had a 'Weather Watch' warning about the rain... localised flooding in some areas... we are OK... being relatively high up..
ReplyDeleteTom :O)
Wow! All three forms of water in that photo: water, ice and snow!!!!! Be careful! Hopefully, the creek isn't too deep if you do fall through the ice.
ReplyDeleteNeat photos!
Okay... what does it say about me that I see a uterus in the first shot? And to a lesser degree, the second one too. Especially in the context of "to thaw or not to thaw"?
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it, what do you suppose drew you to that composition?
Or should I just skip the psychobabble and say I like all three, but love the first one?
Loved the pictures and the thoughts. Wish you could send some of that snow down south :)
ReplyDeleteHey Connecticut looks a LOT like here. :) When I get out to look around that is, it's just been so cold lately.
ReplyDeleteA time of transition in many places and you've captured it beautifully Sandy! We are getting a fresh "dump" of snow today, here in BC, yipeee!
ReplyDeleteHugs, G
I just love your photos! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I think it's so sweet having a memorial photo of Suzanne. I miss her too.
ReplyDeleteThe first seemed like the image of a bird in flight, Sandy :)
ReplyDeleteI love your ice/snow covered landscapes -- sights we miss here :)
wishes,
devika
At least it adds spice to life!
ReplyDeleteLovely winter scenes!
ReplyDeleteSandy, that middle photo brings back such memories of walking through the winter woods in CT when I was younger. Though it is much warmer here where I live now, it only takes a picture like this to remind me and make me (briefly) long for the peace and the wildness of it!
ReplyDeleteMy neighbor's pond was frozen like glass. I wanted to ice skate like I did so often as a girl but by the next day it had melted.
ReplyDeleteOops I am not Joe.
ReplyDeleteI love these pictures of winter,it makes me appreciate summer so...but I love winter anyway!
ReplyDeletehugs
Sandi
so this means it's bye bye winter!
ReplyDeleteI have never felt as much guilt as I do every winter since moving south! I do remember trying to decide where to step - or not - when fresh snow might - or might not - be covering a big slush puddle!

I have never seen ice and snow cracks and shapes quite like that, except on pictures with Indians on them. They must be something typically american. They are fascinating!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful place! Excellent shots.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are absolutely beautiful. I need to get out there in the snowfall today. My camera is achingly devoid of shot at the moment.
ReplyDeleteJust love that top photo of the break in the ice. 'Spring' is just the same for us here in eastern Canada.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous place to walk. Makes me hungry for a bush tromp.
ReplyDeleteThe thick white snow looked so beautiful. I think I will need to wear like a huge bear to walk out there...lol.
ReplyDeleteI see with ur pix
ReplyDeleteLet's take it as it is, day after day, taking the most of it.
ReplyDeletelol You are bewitched by the beauty, or bedeviled by the cold, and either way, you don't know until you fall through! A perfect summation of life :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for being here.
