Sylvia, I think the "white" refers to the color of the exterior. It's Yankee humor.
This marquis made me smile after spending so much time in the South, where the message is usually "repent or burn" or "God is ruthless, so get your act together." Not in those words, but close enough. It's the kind of religion that makes it easy to understand why people drink.
I get a kick out of so many sincere message signs like this one, where the person who devised it means no harm. But then, that's what makes it so hilarious! :D)!
