There are no flowers about for my weekly flower post, so I'm extending the definition of flower to mean anything that blossoms or once blossomed. With that in mind, this remarkable tree fits the bill. This uprooted marvel lies in the sand near the breakwater at Hammonasset Beach in Connecticut.

It's a marvel for its size. The bleached sinews of this relic suggest incredible strength. On its side and obviously untethered, this relic has me thinking what it must be like to be the root of a large deciduous tree pushing through the earth to anchor the tree upright.

As I watched the couple feeding Sun chips to the gulls, I also watched countless couples come to the tree to pose near it for photos or to take a portrait of the tree that was. Nobody took the glasses.
