When I was heading out for a walk Saturday morning, papa osprey saw me and did the usual up and out of the nest and around and around to make sure all is right where his family is concerned. (My camera caught the action, albeit with the strange dots I can't seem to find in the camera to eliminate. Any thoughts on that one? Please let me know.)

Farther down and around the corner, I saw the shrimp boats out again. The birds were enjoying breakfast on the water too. It was a beautiful morning.

I would say clean your lens but your other photos don't have that spot...great photos!

I saw an Osprey Sunday. The first one I have seen in a few years. Beautiful birds. The fishing boat looks lonesome out there.

(last time there was a dot on me lens, it was from teargas and it did ruin it)
I love the shots of the osprey in flight and also of the shrimp boat. If that dot isn't in all your shots, then it's probably not the lens. My guess would be a fast moving flying insect. I've had that happen. I'll think it's a smudge but realize it's not in all the shots and then I'll realize I focused on the bird so that was clear but a bee or fly was moving and ended up looking like a blurry dot. I came to that conclusion after a time or too when I actually saw a bee fly by fast in the frame and I had the ahaha moment realizing that must have been the issue with other shots.

Ha! I read through every comment and will come back to see if anyone knows for sure about your spot. Because I have a blurry one that shows up only on blue sky. Carver's probably right about yours though, both because she's a photo genius and because it sounds logical for the kind of spot you have.

Sandy, nice osprey! I get those dots also. Probably dust on the mirror or lens deep inside. It seems to matter what angel the light is coming from and they are very difficult to remove. My camera has a way to lift the mirror up to get at the lens behind but you must be very careful. It may have to be sent off to be cleaned professionally but look in your camera's menu for a "lift the mirror" or "tilt the mirror" link. Best to read your manual or get some professional advice on this.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I know mine is on the lens because it is always in the same spot but it does seem to be made darker by the angle of the light. I have tried to remove mine by tilting the mirror and blowing compressed air in there with no success. I know I have to send my camera off but I hate to do without it! I will soon have to give in because it is driving me crazy!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteI know that my own spots are caused by dust/dirt on the sensor. It happens when you use your camera as much as we do.. outdoors, especially. I had it cleaned very well, last year. I'm due again.
You can buy the items needed to clean it yourself but I've never had very good luck with that. If you want to try, there are a plethora of videos online explaining how to do it.
Or just bring it into a quality camera shop where they will clean it while you wait (about 10 minutes). Call around in advance to find out who will do it. And make sure they're all really gone by snapping a shot of a white wall or ceiling before you leave the store.
Those spots show up quite readily in sky images.. less so in busier shots.
