New to his running legs,
A child runs for the laughing gulls.
They elude him,
But he is proud
Even as his mother trails behind
Stooping to the fragments of shells
Under her feet.
A child runs for the laughing gulls.
They elude him,
But he is proud
Even as his mother trails behind
Stooping to the fragments of shells
Under her feet.

You set an excellent scene there.

I can picture this scene so clearly and sense the connection of mother, child and nature. Good write Sandy.

ReplyDeleteVery nicely said in these seven lines, Sandy.
ReplyDeleteThere is wonderful imagery too, in contrast to that of his mother walking on the shells, where we know the little boy is runing happily on the fresh green grass.
I wish somehow that the mother might share in the child's joy.
..
every mom want his child to be stronger,, salute to her..
ReplyDeleteLovely word picture here. An interesting take on "Depression." I see many meanings in the word and the poem and not the expected ones. Is it the depression of footsteps in the sand? Is it the depression of the mother as she sees the future of her son and his childhood already slipping away? Is Claudia right? Is Jim correct? Lots to think about!
ReplyDeleteThanks for being here.
