Abundance:
The silence before snowfall
That puts a foot between the door
Of Midwinter and April
The silence
The stillness
The solitude
The invitation to stillness and solitude
That does not say
Though it means
Be still and quiet.
Say nothing.
You can feel it.
Open your mouth and you'll taste it
Though your open hands
Will not grasp it.
Here is an abundance
Stillness and quiet
Beckoning the snow.

Silent...
ReplyDeleteBeautifully penned..
Love the solitude that emanates from the words itself..
Keep blogging...
Sandy, you well depict a special fascinating soft atmosphere, permeated by silence and solitude, before snowfall.
ReplyDeleteI pray well when I go slowly, softly, silently.
ReplyDeleteListening more than thinking.
I did the same on my third reading of Abundance.
The slower the better.
Zen is not a four letter word.
Then I saw the first snow flakes.

Perfectly described.
ReplyDeletewonderful words!
ReplyDeleteI love this abundant time of year. I treasure the abundance of time. The abundance of cold and snow that I can revel in. The biggest chore being keeping the house neat and tidy. No outside chores. Just time to think and create. Smelling the cold air as the snow begins to fly through the globe. I feel like someone has picked me up and shaken me so all my senses have become more acute.
ReplyDeleteThe stillness and the space before... anything. What a profound description of abundance!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, winter poem. I can feel and taste the snow. I love the break and flow in this poem as well.
ReplyDeleteI found snow in my hands.. I am yet to actually experience it Sandy.. very beautiful..
ReplyDeleteFar too lound and alluring not to read even in the middle of the night. Thank you for this 'white noise'.
