The devil rushes in
Where angels fear to tread.
I have heard this
Ever since I was a child.
The idea is
I think
That angels are cautious
Or at least more cautious
Than the devil.
Which I don't get.
Who needs a fearful angel?
Now when I lead children
Down the hall
And they laugh
Because I tell them
I am four times their age
And they have no excuse
For falling behind
At my walking pace
Which is damned quick
I think
Live
Move
Run if you must
But catch up
This lingering in the hallway
Does no good.
We must move.
We must love.
We must breathe life.
At every turn
We must rush in
And love
Even if we are wrong.

Amen. I hope you have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI always heard, "fools rush in where angels fear to tread". Probably the same. I always want to catch up, so I don't fall behind. And this lingering in the hallway seems, like lingering in life. Gotta move forward, love life, and get up when we fall down. I like your perspective very much here.
ReplyDeleteMy piece took a different turn this week. I've got an angel in my pocket. :) My best, Rob.
Devils and Angels -- Not very familiar with either...but think its both sides of the same coin called human being - if we can be humane and understand and love as human beings; it could make whole lot of difference,
ReplyDeletewell, my thought....But a nice poem, Sandy :)
wishes,
devika
Lovely poem...
ReplyDeleteWe must rush in
And love
Even if we are wrong.
So true
Wow, great poem.
ReplyDeleteI've heard the same expression. I had a different slant on it. That people, situations, and things, left on their own tend to degrade. Positive effort has to be made to prevent the devil from taking over and it is up to us to do that.
To us nerd engineers it is the second law of thermodynamics, entropy.
once upon a time, that is, beyound your birth or your forefathers, beautiful angels and wise devils co-related in many ways. so why worry in this regard? devils are always devils and angels will be there to provide protections from devilish eveils. don't be afraid. gud night.
ReplyDeleteI love your words, of course, as always! And, yes, move, run, breathe, love at every turn and don't be afraid of being wrong, love the day, the moment! Have a wonderful weekend, Sandy1

"We must rush in
ReplyDeleteAnd love
Even if we are wrong."
It's a wonder how you always weave such lovely messages with your words for us readers.
we must breathe life, at every turn...
ReplyDeleteThat line to me, says it all. Wonderful work Sandy. Speaks of the space you are currently in too. I tried to write to this prompt but trashed it. You did well.
Hugs and thinking of you, G
Love the poem, especially the last line. But still, we always need to 'rush' at a pace that allows drinking in the beauty & wonder that's been entrusted to us.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could follow your advice. Alas, I am cautious by nature. :(
ReplyDeleteI like the way you turned the old saying on its head, and of course you are absolutely correct. We do need to rush in and love.
ReplyDeleteI love that! No time to waste in this life, that is for sure:)
ReplyDeletehmm Devil rushes in where angels fear to tread.
ReplyDeleteI think it means if you give the devil a chance, if you invite him in, he will come in. Where as if the devil invites angels, they know not to cross the line between good and evil.
This is why you need to be careful who comes into your home be it in the form of TV,radio, videos,or friends, songs, bad language, bad behaviour etc....Once you invite the wrong things in, they are there to stay.
Life is not easy today. It's very lonely for angels.
It's a nice and right concept: we must try to live life fully.
ReplyDeletejust the way we should see things and of doing it.
ReplyDeleteGreat words. Yes, if you wait for life you never catch up.
ReplyDeleteI think it should read...angels rush in where devils fear to tread. Now that is more like it and probably right on the mark!!
ReplyDeleteWe all need to keep pace...to love...to forgive...quickly!!
Hugs

Very insightful. I like the underlying question in there.
ReplyDeleteangular angels
Also don't to get aboard the Poetry Train on Monday mornings!
The things we were told when were kids! I'd like to think angels are speedy enough to come to our rescue everytime we remember to invoke them :D And that where the devil tempts, angels are there as well to give us strength. Have a good weekend Sandy!
ReplyDeleteinteresting thoughts. i think devils rush in and try to get our attention while angels wait patiently for us to tune in and listen.
ReplyDeleteThis is great Sandy! I love the ending and especially not lingering in doorways and catching up...loving even if we are wrong. Perfection! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI can relate, I'm always holding
ReplyDeletemy age over my student's head
when they can't keep up.
Yes, sometimes it does pay to
throw caution to the wind and
simply Love.
to rush in with love sure sounds like good advice. thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteyou tell this so well!
ReplyDeleteyes, i think u r right too.. angels do seem more cautious than the devil..!
ReplyDeleteYes, must catch up and love.
ReplyDeletethanks.
How can one imagine a fearful angel.. if it fears in those moments its not an angel.. angels are saviuors and hence exude fearlessness as an essential trait.. Sandy, as usual you lead the intellectual brigade gathered around here..Thanks..
ReplyDeleteI have never thought angels are fearful but I guess these angels of yours are the angels that you see daily in your life...:)
ReplyDeleteThey have fears why not, even we as kids do, back then...:)
I love the message of your poem Sandy!
Good morning and have an angelic week ahead! *smiles for you from me*
We must keep up with the world, for it never stops turning. If we wait, we are left behind. Wonderfully written!

Sandy, are you putting us on this week?
ReplyDeleteAngels are very brave and they take all kinds of risks to perform their assignments in the face of danger.
But,,, when an angel does fear to tread there is a major problem and only a fool (your devil) would dare continue. At a rush even!
How about:
The devil rushes in
Where even angels fear to tread.
That reckless old devil, he!
Next, the connection between the angel/devil bit is that the devil is right? Rush in, kids (they were being led down the hall), and love even if you're wrong.
..
I guess I am bad tonight, please forgive me but, well, ...
..
As always, you write words and wonderful poems emerge!
ReplyDeleteHow true, and well said! It seems if we slow down, soon we are going slower. :(
ReplyDeleteThis isn't a theological treatise, Jim. I am not a Christian. My point was that love will do what love has to do because it is love. This is not a piece for the literal-minded.
ReplyDeleteThis lingering does no good when so much life is ready to be lived!
ReplyDeletelove this, Sandy!
love will do what love will do.
ReplyDeleteindeed.
and I love catching up here in
ReplyDeleteI love this poem. "This lingering in the hallway does no good."
ReplyDelete:)
"We must rush in
ReplyDeleteAnd love
