...Connecticut who suffered in southern military prisons, 1861-1866." This monument stands on the grounds of the Connecticut state capitol building. (This man sure does look like a child to me. Such are the effects of war.)
Too often it is the old that send the young to die for their vanity. So many "children" have given all they have, which is their life for a cause not their own... How many are enough?
I agree that he appears to be very young. Sending children to war is a very sad thing to do. They are not old enough to understand what they are doing.
I notice that too. Even now, many of the soldiers I see look so young, and it makes me so sad to see them so young and taking on such big responsibilities.

They were children. So many young men (and now women) die protecting our country, our beliefs .. then and now ... bless them all
ReplyDeleteHe looks like a 14 year old.
ReplyDeleteMany of the "men" were teenagers! Great statue depicting the young that fought.
ReplyDeleteI think that was the story of Andersonville, Sandy. A terrible thing!
ReplyDeleteWar brings so much suffering to everyone. There has to be another way...
ReplyDeleteWar is most often fought by young men. And that statue portrays that youth.

When I look at the photos of myself in Viet Nam I think, Wow! We were just kids.
ReplyDeleteExcellent capture indeed.
So very, very young. So full of life and promise, now frozen in time.
ReplyDeleteMay we never, never forget.

Yes, a young face.
ReplyDeleteGreat tribute!
You are right! that face looks all of ten. Back in the day they meant it when they used 12 as the age of an adult!
ReplyDeleteUsually it is the young men who are sent to fight in wars. I don't support any wars, we need to live in harmony.
ReplyDeleteWe all weep for the ones who fight and die for their country.
ReplyDeleteVERY TOUCHING MONUMENT. WONDERFUL TRIBUTE.
ReplyDeleteI WISH TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY, HAPPY EASTER
Love the closeup. He does look like a child.
ReplyDeleteMost "men" who fight wars aren't even old enough to drink legally. The statue is true to the soldier. It is nice to see them honored.
