Connecticut's capitol building in Hartford is an amazing work of High Victorian Gothic architecture that hearkens back to a time Hartford was a very wealthy city--and a time when creating beautiful buildings to stand the varied tests of time was important. Hartford is a city of architectural beauty as well as of fast-and-easy cement boxes and glass towers (whose greatest purpose is to reflect and refract the beauty around them.)

What an incredibly beautiful building! And it does put our "fast and easy" to shame! Your photos really show the beauty of the architecture! Thanks for the different views! Hope you have a great week, Sandy!

What a blue sky that is .. Hartford is one of the Grand Dames of capitol cities.
ReplyDeletebeautiful buildings...
ReplyDeleteWwowww. That's a building you'd expect to find in Europe somewhere with creaky armor and lots of brocade and velvet and mahogany and stuff around.
ReplyDeleteVery impressive edifice. And splendidly captured too!
(You're gonna laugh... my word verification is "stests"... fitting, huh?)
Our capital building is quite beautiful! Nice captures.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen a picture of Connecticut's capitol building before. It's a dandy. The gold dome remind's me of Colorado's dome which is also gold, I think.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I love about buildings like this is that their is a story and a reason for almost all the various decorative items such as the statues.
Oh, my gosh, this took my breath away. I am in the process of photographing historic buildings and homes in Phoenix, AZ, and we have nothing here that even halfway resembles this! Although, we have not even been a state for a hundred years yet.
ReplyDeleteI'm still just in awe at how beautiful this building is!
Beautiful architecture. Nice pics.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely someone cared about art when they built this building! It looks like "home away from home" to the residents, I bet! Bringing the architectural beauty from home country is a lovely idea. . . I am sure it had influence at least.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely built before the current recession. :) I love old architecture!

ReplyDeleteAmazing architecture and those blue skies are the perfect contrast!
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely morning that was! thanks for sharing it with me!
ReplyDeleteSandy, my first degree is in Architecture, so I marvel at the ornateness of the capital building structure. Buildings are not made that way much any more due to cost. Now I am wishing I could wander the hallways inside to see those details as well. I think the last time I made a trip to Connecticut is was to Mystic Seaport, driving up from Tenafly, NJ. Have a good day. Rob
ReplyDeleteThis is a masterpiece, as are your wonderful photos!
ReplyDeleteIt's look like a castle... And by looking at the details of this magnificent building, my reaction was...whew!!!
