Wordless Wednesday: Nah...Just Snowy Wednesday

Perhaps because I love to swim, I saw the legs of a diver here:

Still, because I love winter and I have missed it sorely during its many Southern sojourns, I couldn't take my eyes off of this tree while the snow fell last Tuesday afternoon. I love the curve of this tree's trunk. I remember the day my daughter and her friend made their way to the top of this gentle green beauty in their Crocs. I was somehow sure the tree would keep her safe. (Howe I delude myself to get by!) She got herself down on her own steam. But the tree was good to my girl. I know it. Such a beautiful tree.

I, too, can see the curve of biceps femoris, the stretched canvas of the gastrocnemius and the muscle and bone that makes this tree the ultimate scuba diver.

    Love it.

  2. If you hadn't said it, I might not have seen it. But since you did, it's obvious how you got there.

I'm glad the tree was good to your girl. Glad you (finally) got some snow too. I know how much you missed it.

  3. What a beautiful shot for the day! Such a gorgeous tree and, yes, I can see your diver -- but might have missed it if you had called attention to it! Hope your week is going well so far, Sandy!

  4. I posted some photos of snow covered cedar trees today-winter is beautiful in what it reveals of the inner structure of trees without their leaves-naked beauty.

Since you mentioned it, I saw them right away. I would never have seen them had you not mentioned it though.

  6. This reminds me more of those ski jumpers that fling themselves down a hill and fly through the air. Trees will take care of those that love them.

  10. Those are beautiful shots Sandy and I see a divers legs too.

I'm such a mean mother that when my daughter broke her collar bone because my sycamore tree didn't take care of her, I had the tree cut down. To be fair the tree was old and if I'd been outside I wouldn't have let her climb that high on the old branches. She was out with some older neighborhood children who were keeping an eye on her.

That was back in the early 1990s but I still remember how freaked out I was. Your tree looks very sturdy and I'm sure your daughter is safe climbing it as I was safe all those years when I used to climb big old trees in my youth.

  16. IF you are going to have delusions they may as well be wonderful ones. Not sure i see legs... maybe but i can visualize the little ones in their crocks quite easily. Such a winder wonderland. All we get is dreary over cast grey drizzly days. Love it though our reservoir went dangerously down this year, and the rain is filling it back up yeah. But I so love the pretty white snow...

  23. Trees are certainly one of childhood's best toys. I have many fond memories of climbing high in the branches of the pine trees that filled the woods behind my home. We scared my mother a few times, but we never came to any harm.

  35. The snow is pretty. But I definitely don't miss being in it - it wasn't something I remember fondly from growing up in New York. I will just enjoy through all the photos I see from others.

This tree is beautiful in the snow. The memory of your daughter and friend climbing the tree in their Crocs sent chills up and down my spine. It's a good thing we don't know all the close calls our kids have had! :)

  50. Snow on a tree. It is amazing how organic and varied nature is. Unlimited in it's artfulness. To see the beauty in a tree and the snow. I have always marveled at such simple, but beautiful things myself. Such is the beginnings of inspiration. Thanks for a great picture, friend. Rob.
