This dove was singing into the afternoon blue one day last week when I was out for a walk near my parents' home in Newtown, Connecticut. I was about ready to take a decent shot when I heard the rumble of the UPS truck as that big, brown monster came onto the road. So this was a quick. I'm not much good at photographing animate things, so I was happy to get this guy before he flew off.

So soft... and so warm against that ice blue sky. Well spotted indeed.
ReplyDeleteNice of him to sit so still for you like that. Birds give me a fit. Even without a delivery truck to scare them off.
Cute little one and a clear blue sky.
ReplyDeleteWell captured.
Have a wonderful weekend.

I am thinking this is a cousin of the one I saw/photographed in Norwalk .. lovely sky and I am glad he saw you aiming and waited ...
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous shot, Sandy! And what a lovely, little bird! He does look as though he's enjoying the blue skies! The only birds I've been able to catch are the seagulls down at the beach and if you don't have something for them to eat, you can't imagine what a sour, annoyed looking bird shot you get. One woman last year ever wrote a poem one shot that I posted. It was really funny! Hope you have a great weekend!

Hope is indeed a thing with feathers.
ReplyDeletegreat photo, love the blueness of the sky
ReplyDeleteAnd I am glad you got it too! It looks like a planned shot to me -- perfect that it is mostly on the left of the photo with the big limb!!!!!!!!! Centered, it would be just another photo.
ReplyDeleteYou've photographed the bird so well at the right moment! Generally, they suddenly fly away!
ReplyDeleteI like the tree against the deep blue sky too.
Love the Morning Dove and the deep blue sky. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou got a good pic there, as they know and usually fly off - looks like he's checking you out too!
ReplyDeleteA sweet bird. I agree with Mojo, very soft picture indeed!
ReplyDeletei love the colour of the pigeons' feathers, it's perfect with the blue sky
ReplyDeleteWell, he must have been posing because this is a nice composition. My favorite birds in the springtime--I had two that inhabited my deck railing each spring in Chicago; first two and then 'three.'
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful bird! Fantastic capture.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Perfect capture.
ReplyDeleteHow thoughtful of him to pose against that spectacularly blue sky :). Nice catch Sandy.
ReplyDeleteWonderful image! I know is not easy to caught like this, they are fly away before:)
ReplyDeleteGood shot of the Dove against the nice Blue sky.

Gorgeous bird in blue sky!
ReplyDeleteSandy: Very nicely done, love the dove in the sky.
ReplyDeleteIs the dove hungry and looking for food? I fgrequently feed the pigoens with left over rice, bread and noodles.
ReplyDeleteMust confess I am a careless cook, and cook too much, So the birds get a good feed.
That's a fat one. Against a beautiful blue sky.
ReplyDeletehe is watching you Sandy..)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dove. Isn't it wonderful the many meanings of the dove in history?
ReplyDeleteI am laughing as I look at this - you will understand why when you see my new blog header. I also don't have the best of luck taking pictures of moving objects so was quite proud of myself when I got the shot that I did. I love mourning doves, so calm and laidback.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very good shot!
ReplyDeleteSkyWatchFriday:Beautiful Sunset
it's a good shot, really and he's cute! i love the blue sky background. My sky entry is up here.
ReplyDeleteI hope the blue skies and the song birds are headed back for spring.
ReplyDeletenice shot of the bird against the blue sky
ReplyDeleteI do not see how you could have done much better. This a wonderful shot of the dove. They sound sad to me when they make sounds.
ReplyDeleteThe bright blue sky is a beautiful foil for the Mourning Dove. Even though they are a common bird I love them. They are so sweet and this time of year they have beautiful iridescent plummage. Even in your photo you can see the bright blue eyering. Their feet get bright red and it looks as if someone has washed them with iridescent paints on their nape. Happy SWF.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot of the mourning dove. The expression on its profile is great.
ReplyDeleteA gentle dove with a brilliant blue to show off it's colour! Lovely!~
ReplyDeleteWell I think you captured him great and I love the contrasts in colours too.
ReplyDeleteOn quiet afternoons, I love how doves will sit and stare at us... as we enjoy looking at them~ Maria
ReplyDeleteLovely bird shot, Sandy. Maybe that UPS truck was delivering someone's dream.
ReplyDeleteLooks like he has his eye on a worm or something.
ReplyDeletesuch a lovely and truly peaceful photo. I'm so glad I stopped by.

ReplyDeleteIf that is not very good, then I am perfectly lousy! I would have said it was a great shot, myself!!
ReplyDeleteHe is lovely!
ReplyDeleteHis chest is puffed out in pride.
ReplyDeleteOne Single Impression - Insomnia
Clever to capture the bird...they move so quickly and the moment is easily lost. A beautiful clear blue sky...a welcome contrast to my snow-filled grey horizon!
ReplyDeleteBella:)
Ditto: Bella All this snow is effecting my commenting LOL

Nice to see the blue sky in your world. The dove is cute too. Nice shot.
ReplyDeleteGreat capture...It's like he waited and posed for you before he flew off.
ReplyDeleteThe birds know spring is coming! (It IS isn't it?)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a sign that Spring's on its way, right?
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
That is a perfect shot, for a rushed effort, Sandy. Excellent. I love that we are so "aware" of other influences when it comes to photographing nature. I've frequently missed a perfect opportuity because a vehicle or human blundered by. Thanks for visiting my blog. It 's good to see you again. (((Hugs))) Jo
ReplyDeleteThanks for being here.
