Be careful.
Cobwebs."
That is the conversation
In the woods
When it is warm.
We are not worried
About the spiders
But the art
The symmetry
The balance
The beauty of the
Completeness
Of the web
And the thin lines
That keep this delicate
Universe
Intact.
It is not ours to take.
Humbly,
We bow our heads
And make our way
Around
The webs.
The completeness
Of the thing
Is part of our day.
We want it.

That is beautiful and captures the essence so well...Michelle
ReplyDeleteTrue, we also don't like the feel of the webs in our faces, lol. :)
ReplyDeleteSpider webs serve as an inspiration and metaphor to many things in our lives. It serves to remind me that I can be trapped by one if I am not careful.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the idea of it being compared to "completeness" is refreshing, even if it is a temporary completeness that is fragile to the touch. Nice metaphor, Sandy.
wow Sandy, really very beautifully expressed about that delicate cobwebs....
ReplyDeletein one way or the other, that's life!
good morning!
I always marvel at the design and construction of spider webs. Stronger than steel for their size. Such intricate designs and functional for the spider. Nicely done Sandy.
ReplyDeletei like the phrase, the thin lines that keep the delicate universe in tact...yes indeed!
ReplyDeleteReverent, Sandy!
ReplyDeleteAloha,
Comfort Spiral
I am already looking forward to that time when we can walk through the woods or garden and see the webs formed knowing they are out there.
ReplyDeletebeautiful poem, sandy!
ReplyDeleteWatching the spider construct the web is a fascinating way to spend an hour (or less sometimes -- they're really pretty efficient). Every thread in place, a temporary home for the night and tomorrow they'll take it apart and move on to somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteAnd do it all over again.
Amazing to watch.
Hi Sandy, our potential discomfort is those spiders' salvation! Very nicely said.
ReplyDelete"Humbly,
We bow our heads
And make our way

The webs"
I'd a' said "Grumbling we bow ..." with nothing humble about it! End result of either approach is good for those little creatures.
..
I read this fine poem of yours with great interest, Sandy.
ReplyDeleteI'm always thrilled by the cobwebs: I admire their perfect harmonious structure and wonder how can a little creature build such amazing structures.
It's no wonder why a lot of things are inspired by the spider's web, the worldwide web for one. It's a work of art and a structure of great strength, it boggles the imagination. One can fear the spiders but admire their creation. Thanks for the wonderful prose, Sandy.

ReplyDeletevery refreshing..
Beautiful, Sandy. It shows your wonderful respect for nature.
ReplyDeleteDo you ever share your poetry with your students?
Such insight, reverence and clarity regarding the small (big) things...
ReplyDeleteAnd since Spider wove the world into being, reverence is only her due...
ReplyDeleteThanks for this thing of great beauty--
And you weaved some beautiful words there.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful words. The part about making our way around the webs reminds me of a morning walk I took in the fall. I had to actually go under a web because it had been spun between two trees, one on either side of the path. I tried to take a picture of it, but it didn't turn out very well.
ReplyDeleteThe completeness
ReplyDeleteOf the thing

i love this
I love how your poem takes me to the woods, but also shows me the world. I find a double meaning in "We bow our heads
ReplyDeleteAnd make our way
Around
The webs." Ducking to go around the webs, but also learning how to use the webs (internet) and make our way around them, also.
Very nice! Also, thank you for the comment on my page. It is by far the most exuberant comment I've ever received!
Beautiful tribute to spider webs.
ReplyDeleteNicholas
I can almost feel an unseen web grasping at my face, clinging with perseverance! But, I can also feel the woods and the enjoyment of this world and its web. Nice write!
ReplyDeletebeautiful ..
ReplyDeleteA spider web is a superb thing.
ReplyDeleteAs a child, when I would make a mistake at times I was told to clear the cobwebs from my brain :)
ReplyDeleteI was never able to do so and still think of that when I hear someone mention cobwebs.
I always wondered if a spider made spider webs then did a cob make cobwebs:)
A bit late to the party, I feel like it's just going to reiterate what everybody said already, but... damn, this is beautiful. One of my favorites that I've seen of yours, the ending is particularly nice.
ReplyDelete(I avoid spiderwebs too, but mostly because when I walk through one I jump around yelling and batting at my hair to get it out.)
I don't like coming across spiderwbs around the house, but out in the woods they are beautiful and perfectly suited~ beautiful read!
ReplyDeletebeautiful. I admit to having a knee-jerk fear of entangling my head in webs (my mother admits to screaming at me repeatedly as a 6 month old every time my head got near the cobwebby undersides of my grandfathers chairs), but I appreciate the spiders' art.
ReplyDeleteLovely Sandy. As always you get at the heart of the prompt.
ReplyDeletelove, Melanie
sometimes I think the best we can do is to stay out of the way. so as not to disturb. Beautiful, as always.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being here.
