1. November crept in silently last weekend.
2. There was a strange magic about the silence of the day.
3. Wherever I found myself, I noticed the absence of human noise and even of animal sounds--no geese, no ducks, no distant dogs, no crows, no gulls.
4. Silence.
5. All were gone.
6. Somewhere.
7. Inside, I think--houses, holes, nests--or somewhere warm.
8. Then, last night, I heard one cricket chirping into the darkness that was not cold.|
9. It felt as though a warm draft had rolled back over the flapping wings of those distant Canada geese heading South.
10. Then there was the promise of rain. Warm November rains feel strange.
11. They take with them the last of the Fall color,
12. Clearing the sky of the debris of summer,
13. November rains make it possible to see the stars at night and to perhaps touch them. Or at least try.
Thursday Thirteen

Sandy, this is such a nice post. I enjoy your silent contemplations. Your inner landscape is always expressed with such thoughtfulness and beauty.
ReplyDeletebeautiful photo! Love your thoughts :)
ReplyDeleteI like the November mood you've captured. I like to think of it as the year catching its breath between autumn's glory and the burst of joy that is the Christmas season. Lovely list, yours!
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful Thursday Thirteen. Peaceful, as always....Peace - D
ReplyDeleteSpine tingling.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and thought provoking words as always. I love your 13s.
Love the contrast in the colours between the autumn leaves on the tree and the blue sky. And the shape of the tree.
Great post.
is it thursday already? soon november will be over but let's try to slow it down and enjoy each day. love your poetic thoughts.
ReplyDeleteWonderful thoughts on November - part eulogoy, part celebration, part wonder...and , a late season cricket - lucky you to have one last chirp!
ReplyDeleteNovember is my favorite because of all those things.
ReplyDeletei just arrive here in USA last June, i think i'm not ready for winter yet... :)
ReplyDeleteNice! you can see how the wind has shaped the tree. I like the words summer and colour, good rhyme!
ReplyDeleteLovely, lovely.
ReplyDeleteOur rains at the Hollow in November are not warm, and rarely gentle. We had our first snow of the season last night and this morning. It tells me it's time to tuck thoughts of Spring, Summer, and Fall into the rusty hope chest that is known as my mind and set my focus on enjoying the delicacies of winter. I know that some day soon you will write of those, and they will land like the freshly fallen snow on my tongue.
Your words are as ever, a welcome dessert. Tasty, sometimes refreshisng, sometimes decadent, always delicious.
Lovely poem.
ReplyDeleteYou may even know more about rain than I do!
13 splendid points, Sandy. Another fine post.
ReplyDeleteThe stars twinkle in the sky, on the moon the sky is black with the sun shining in it: it's strange and a bit worrying to see, isn't it?
"November rains make it possible to see the stars at night and to perhaps touch them. Or at least try."
ReplyDeleteI am not fond of rain. I wish it would always rain at night when I am sleeping. . . BUT the above (your last point) makes it something to look forward to for me, I reckon. After over two weeks of sunshine, the autumn rains are here every day now. Because of your post, I now have two reasons to be happy about rainy season. . . the stars might be more visible AND snow will soon arrive! It's already in the mountains! I love snow!
really beautiful post - photography is beautiful - excellent - indeed said - details are that that de facto yours creative opus makes especial

ReplyDeleteyour tree really look similar to our tree here, too, just outside our house... :) they told me that all the leaves will soon fall... i think it's a sad scene...
ReplyDeleteAn excellent description of November there. It's got to the gloomy stage over here - you know, never gets quite light.
ReplyDeleteits very good to contemplate and just be with yourself sometimes. Lovely thoughts!
ReplyDeleteSo true-the battle of warmth and cooler temps in November is mesmerizing.
ReplyDeleteThose Canada geese you scared on their way got here today. They had very loose bowels, as usual. Thanks! I had to step all around it as I made my way into the cardiac care center, for the Viet Cong doctors to torment me.
