This was my dim view from a lean-to at White Memorial Nature Center in Litchfield, Connecticut, on Saturday. We sat and enjoyed our lunch and took in the wet, grey midday atmosphere. This is New England after the fall. Call it November: cold, damp, and grey yet strangely bright and open and lively. An acquired taste? Maybe. I think I was born with it, though; I can't imagine being anywhere else this time of year.

I think I would be happy with the cold the damp and the grey. After all, cloudy foggy days are when I'm most happy.
ReplyDeleteOh I love the shot below, from your previous post. I would love to have that hanging in my office.
Your photo could have been taken here. I like the composition! The mist and the wet look beautiful in it. I have to admit I get used to and even grow to like autumn each year again, but it is a process of acclimatization that has to rebegin over and over after each summer. Summer just makes me feel at home. Winter I endure, sometimes with admiration.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are as gorgeous as ever. I loved foggy days in the midwest because it looked so mysterious. We're just getting rain here in Hawaii. I wish we could share it with California.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bright dim!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful World.
Always a pleasure to visit and get your take on things. Pappy
ReplyDeleteLooks a little wet Sandy, but its a great shot.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great 'mood capture' this is. Love the angle of the shot, and the pine needles on the wet bench. Perfect.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot and good atmosphere.
ReplyDeletePerfect late autumn photo. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCheers!

Oh yes, it looks great! If it does not last too long, I also love those wet and foggy days!
ReplyDeleteWet foggy days, no good for my hair but terrfic for atmospheric photography.
ReplyDeleteYour composition is cleverly done. I like this photo. Personally I prefer the dry sunny Fall days of the Southwest, but your fog and wet has a beauty all it's own. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for a view of your world today,

Sandy: If the photo was in Ohio it would have been covered with snow. We are already into freezing weather today.
ReplyDeleteI noticed someone else saying your photo could have been taken where they live. Same here. It was wet and most of the leaves have fallen. I love this time of year.
ReplyDeleteInteresting! Gives me the shivers, though! :)
ReplyDelete(Don't like cold. Go figure!)
Cheers, Klaus
the composition is wonderful as is the detail, you can really see how wet the bench is! November indeed!
ReplyDeleteSo true that is a typical New England scene. I can't imagine being anywhere else either but your picnic table still makes me sad and wishing for those summer picnics.
ReplyDeleteAmazing how suddenly the trees lost their leaves...And our woods look just like that!
ReplyDeleteIt does look like a great place for a picnic! :)
ReplyDeleteWe had a rainstorm last Wednesday and it took most of the leaves because there was a howling wind with it. Now we are enjoying sunshine until Thursday again.
ReplyDeleteI like photos like that but I can't imagine eating on a wet picnic bench so hope you ate in the car and then went for a walk.
The atmosphere well captured in the words and shot.
ReplyDeletewow do you have alot of comments. like your photo very much. it has character and interest, lots of texture and feelings. weather does affect us a lot.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about "my" world. It is getting more and more grey and wet and dreary but today I enjoyed an odd warm and sunny day! Love your shot! :D
ReplyDeleteLooks really wet!
ReplyDeleteI think the reason I love your photographs so much is that they highlight the texture in you... in the way you look at life. They put me in a very cerebral/spiritual state as I ponder the thoughts you might have had when you took them
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming photograph, Sandy. It must be beautiful to have a picnic there, notwithstanding the dampness.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful time of the year. Although we do not have four seasons, when I travelled, I love to travel during autumn.
ReplyDeleteEven when the dampness gets us down, we can still breath in life.
ReplyDeleteAn important message.
I can just imagine it. It's more of a cleansing rain with cool air? You obviously love your corner of Planet Earth.
ReplyDeleteWhat an eye--I am envious of your talent!
ReplyDeleteI think New England is not so much a love affair as an addiction. Once you have experienced an autumn/winter there, you are hooked for life, as I am.
ReplyDeleteGreat fog and other shots below too.
I think it is passed down from our ancestors. New England is also in my blood. Great photo, it does capture November.
ReplyDeleteI love the wetness...
ReplyDeleteI love days like that too!
ReplyDeleteMakes me glad I'm inside, warm and dry!
ReplyDeletePeace - D

ReplyDeletemy favorite season in the East is FALL. there's nothing like it.

Beautiful shot. It's the same over here, but I don't really appreciate it though. In a photo yes, but not in real life :-)

PS. You´ll be always welcome to my Environment blog too!!
Sounds similar to our weather here in Michigan a few weeks ago. Now there is snow on the ground and we are expecting more. There's nothing more beautiful then the first snow of the season. I wish I had taken a picture.
ReplyDeletePerfect description, Sandy. I find this weather enjoyable in November, but I confess to getting tired of it by March.
ReplyDeleteMuch, much better to be cold, damp and grey in New England than hot, dry and red as the fires burning along the coast.
ReplyDeleteYou take very nice photos and I like your thougts that go with the photos.
An Autumn romantic view!
ReplyDeleteSandy, how this image brings back memories for me. I am so far from that gray, wet place now. I love my sunny world, but sometimes I do miss New England!
ReplyDeleteThis is like where I spent most of my life. I didn't mind it then. Now My World is sunny, and day after day of grey might get to me, but I would probably get used to it again. It is amazing how bright it is, however, in it's dreariness.
ReplyDeleteThat looks exactly like my world! Nothing wrong with grey afternoon atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteLovely write up about the November season on your part of the world, thats the perfect photo to show it too!
ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite!! I love everything about it. It soothes my soul!!:-)
ReplyDeleteNew-England looks like many areas here in France. We have dampness here, too, it makes part of the charm. And the smell of this wet place ? !
ReplyDeletebench pics are a favorite wd me :)
ReplyDeletelovely light retained in the wet wood!
ReplyDeleteit is just like being there.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being here.
