This sunflower grew up in my parents' backyard compliments of some bird or other interloper who dropped the seeds there. It grew to about eight feet tall, and we could watch the blossom follow the sun the way flowers magically do. Now, as summer fades into the cool of September, the flower stands with its head bowed; the work is done. Next year there will likely be many a sunflower in the backyard, thanks to the mysterious first sower of seeds and this one blossom. It really doesn't take a lot to make the world beautiful. Just have to let it be.

Beautiful photos and an equally beautiful musing about time and seasons and growth. Hope to hear more about this one next year!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. I love watching how a whole field of sunflowers follows the sun - they are so big it is quite spectacular! And perfect thoughts to go with the photos.
ReplyDeleteSandy: Certainly a beautiful capture, your angles are outstanding.

ReplyDeleteThat is so beautiful and I love your thoughts. My favorite flowers are those which spring up as volunteers.
ReplyDeleteI love it when I find volunteer flowers growing in my yard too!
ReplyDeleteI love the words you used to describe the sunflower-fall does seem a time of rest unto death-and fall is a coming!
Hi, Sandy,

One of the beautiful flowers. You captured it well.
ReplyDeleteI love sun flowers, but we had to give up on growing them. The squirrels love them, too, and ate the buds before they could bloom. While the squirrels had a good time, it was just too disappointing for us humans.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful photos, Sandy.
ReplyDeleteI love sunflowers :)
Sunflowers are my favorite flowers. It must be nice to see them growing at their best.

Beautiful pictures, and an important message in your words.
ReplyDeleteWonderful how the birds carried those seeds and drop them in your parents yard. They're beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteWe mere mortals aren't nearly as wise as the flowers. We don't seem to know when it's time to stop following the sun.
ReplyDeletePeace - D

ReplyDeleteI guess we have to soak up all the sun we have. The fall is coming and then the dreaded winter :o)
Sunflowers are my favorite flowers :) Matter of fact, even our table place mat has that design :D
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, Sandy!
I love sunflowers. My neighbor's kids once flung sunflower seeds all around my house. When they got about 3 meters tall, you couldn't even see my house from the street!
ReplyDeleteSandy,I think from blogging I have been so inspired taking photos from different angles and looking at life from different angles. This shot and the previous remind me that home may stay the same or change and the people we love will grow up and grow old our love is constant and our love grows --I used to not like change-- only as I age do I see so clearly change is life the opposite is death change is growth. .
ReplyDeleteThat is a huge sunflower too! How nice of that bird to leave it there. :)
ReplyDeleteExactly!!!!

ReplyDeleteIsn't it strange how such a simple truth is so easy to lose sight of,
ReplyDeleteand difficult to follow through with. "It really doesn't take a lot to make the world beautiful. Just have to let it be" Your words are profound...
I wonder why do we like to meddle so often?
I just love sunflowers. There's something so uplifting about a flower that shows its face to the sun.
ReplyDeletewow - those are amazing. now I am thinking mine must be daisys and not sunflowers.
ReplyDeleteThose pictures will surely lighten up and bring smiles to anyone. Reminds me of that movie with Sophia Loren and Mastrionanni... The poems that goes with it says a lot... Thank you, Sandy, for your great WW posts.
