Remembering Mom: Quiet in the Currents

In the pale blue breaks of a rising sky,

Cottony white in warm early August,

There is the promise of winter quiet.

Bunnies sleep in the damp waning cool

As brightness, honest as winter snow,

Fills the sky to its very brim and spills

In gentle waves rolling in, rolling out,

The eternal exchange of hope and rest.

I wake for it early every morning,

Listening for your spirit on the breeze.

In this silent sea of slow shifting light

I feel you in the current of my breath.

To honor my beautiful mom, Sandra Isbell Wiley Carlson, on the anniversary of her birth. Rest in peace, Mom.
