Skywatch Friday: Good Morning, Topsail

IMG 0440

A few sunrises after Christmas found me in my sneakers and on North Topsail Beach taking in the sensuous, breezy splendor of a new day. For this Yankee, the weather was downright mild. I had almost achieved the can't-quite-bend-at-the-elbows level of layering before I stepped out of the house, though. So I unbuttoned, unzipped, and unwrapped--and I felt what I think butterflies must feel when it's time to break out of a cocoon. The free feeling of being stripped down to just three layers was wonderful. For me, there is nothing quite like North Topsail Beach for the peace, the poetry, and the possibilities these bring. It's all downright wonderful.

  1. The beach sounds wonderful right now as I listen to the Oklahoma wind howl and its 15 deg outside my window right now.

Great photograph, warms me up. I just need some sand between my toes.

  2. Absolutely beautiful ;-)
I don't get to see the sunrise over the ocean ... but I do see the setting sun over the water regularly. Sunrises in my neighborhood can be lovely, but (thanks to Molly) I was greeted Monday with something that stopped me in my tracks for a few minutes because it was unlike anything I'd ever seen before. I shared a sunrise surprise mosaic at Small Reflections today.
    Hugs and blessings,

  7. Wow. Missed it by that much. The sunrises while I was there this time were shrouded in mist and clouds. Still compelling, but not dazzling like this. This must've been the day before I got there, 'cause it was still kinda grim when I hit the beach the first time. But it improved a bunch pretty soon after that. ;)

I've got a Topsail sky this week too, but it's from last summer.

  11. It's hard to beat an ocean sunrise, isn't it? We haven't enjoyed a sunrise on North Topsail, but we have watch the sun rise from other beaches in the Carolinas.

  14. "Stripped down to just three layers," lol! Wonderful shots. I so know what you are talking about as far as mild weather for Yankees--here I am, from Maine and New Hampshire, laughing at myself when I shiver during this wonderful New Mexican winter weather!

Thank you for sharing, as always.

  23. Beautiful sunrise, Sandy. And the great thing about winter sunrises is that you don't have to get up early to catch them! It's VERY cold in Britain just now. All our schools are closed on the Isle of Wight, we have no post and no refuse collection services. Am typing this wrapped in a blanket! Hope your mild spell continues but would appreciate a little here too!
