It looks like this is just after he was giving someone a hard time, interrogating whether or not he/she was good this year, and then laughing and saying "Go ahead, I was going to give it to you all along!"
What an engaging photo! I love the joy on his wooden face and the slightly blurred edges - gives it a sense of motion, like the whole picture is laughing!
