Skywatch Friday: Jersey City Seagulls

Whiter than snow, larger than life|
The seagull crying over this city

Tells me it is possible to rise

Above garbage

On the wings of an angel.

New Jersey is the subject of so many cliches that I couldn't help stringing a few together to try to say something a little different.

This tower stands near the water in Jersey City. It's gigantic and not very pretty in itself; it is gorgeous in the way it reflects the sky, though--even on a deep grey day.

  22. I have never been to the other side of the river to visit this building up close.

NJ sure gets to be the butt of some jokes but most of it is beautiful, with a deep horticultural tradition. They don't call it the Garden State for nothing.

    Have a Nice Weekend.

  29. Salty,
I'm still trying to comprehend the perspective, too. The thing is huge and it was very far away. This view might be 1/5 of the height of the thing. Nevertheless, the birds seemed gigantic.

  30. Clever shot...I love birds of every kind.

  31. Very good the photograph, many times the phenomena deceive. When somebody sees photograph it believes that the dark bird is the reflection first!
I wish you have a new good month!

  40. The tower seems dwarfed by the gulls. It's amazing how large the birds seem. Or how small the tower seems. Wonderful photo! My Skywatch is here. Thank you.

The perspective is magic in this shot...awesome timing in capturing the seagulls at these points.

  42. Great photo Sandy. You captured the image of the seagull and it's reflection in the tower beautifully. I love the poem too, especially the bit about "on the wings of an angel". God bless!

  46. It is beautiful in itself too, the way the oblings are sized, almost like an ocean surf swelling and then diminishing. It has rhythm.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Um that was supposed to read "oblongs". :/
