Our World Tuesday: Daffodil Festival

We went to the daffodil festival in Meriden, Connecticut, on Saturday.  What a crowd those little flowers drew.  We had to park miles away and take a school bus to Hubbard Park.

It was worth it.  the 600,001 daffodils were bright, fragrant, and beautiful.  They are my favorite flower, so it was a real treat to see so many on a clear, bright Saturday.

There was even a parade to celebrate the yellow blossoms.  There was a fife-and-drum  band playing patriotic tunes.

The cormorants seemed not to be speaking to the gulls, or vice versa, but they sure did pose nicely.

These folks take their daffodils seriously.  I'm glad--because the daffs come back every year.  It's a nice neighborhood.

  4. Lovely spring photos, Sandy. The sign is a good one. We have a number of cormorants on our pond now also. They usually stick around for a few weeks and them move on. Hopefully. They can drain a small pond of fish in no time and I want to see my herons return.

  8. I remember one year I had just two pretty flowers come up because the squirrels ate the bulbs and this little boy came and saw them and picked them.
I asked him why he picked my flowers and he got scared so I said well you better go give them to Mummy.
(At least she should have some joy in them.)
Well Mummy put two and two together and ran outside scared I'd be mad but I told her he picked them with such adoration and love there was no way to get mad. lol I saw my flowers through a childs' eye and it was worth everything.

  16. I love daffodils as well. I have to buy my buds in a store here in AZ. I have a cobalt blue vase I put them in! That's quite a stiff penalty for picking flowers! Wow!
