Our World Tuesday: Misty Days

We had a misty weekend here in Woodbury.  Only the Canada geese were out and about until Clyde arrived with us in tow.  In the background on the hill is the Masonic Temple.

The swimming hole was a glazed over tub of dishwater that looked very lonely.

The melting ice and the bits of greenery made it seem like the autumn was not so long ago and spring is not so far away.  The January thaw has a way of tricking me out of a sense of time.

I was getting a bit caught up in feeling down about the dreary weather when we turned a corner and came across these wreathes memorializing the 26 victims of Adam Lanza's attack on Sandy Hook School in Newtown, Connecticut.  Each wreath bore a cross with the first name of each victim and his or her age.  The greens smelled like Christmas all these weeks later.  Then those thoughts of the past were gone; there's no going back.

These three wreaths caught my eye especially; the ages of Rachel and Victoria add up to Mary's age.  All those lost years.

The geese, as I mentioned were among us until Clyde sent them packing.  The took off with an awesome rush of the wings.  Clyde is quite the beast; the birds headed straight for Roxbury without any hesitation.  Geese problems?  Call Clyde.

  3. Yes, when one is feeling low all you have to do ls look around and realize that your life is terrific. If not so terrific it could be MUCH worse. Love seeing that Clyde gets to do his doggy duty by chasing the geese. I bet he felt so proud of himself. Good boy.

  5. I agree with Lin, a nostalgic walk indeed! Gray days like this one frequently trigger thoughts and reflections both good and sad! Those are such lovely wreaths for the victims of Sandy Hook -- a beautiful, but sad reminder. Glad Clyde takes care of the geese! A great companion you have there and I'll keep him in mind the next time I have a geese problem! Have a good week, Sandy!

  7. Ata a boy Clyde !

We push drugs on kids and then we wonder why this happens. I wonder if the kid was on Adirol. Many kids take it, to study. They steal prescriptions and then overdose. The damage is irreversible.

  10. That misty day and those memories -- even without the beautiful reminders you certainly wouldn't forget. But we must go on so they say. And you are doing well with that.

  14. Hmm what a walk, lots to think about, but with Clyde you don't have to worry about Geese.

I hope that we always remember Sandy Hook. Even today, every once in a while I stumble across little memorials to the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing.
