You know those color-coordinated, fitted and freshly scrubbed people on the Land's End winter catalog?
We're not them. When winter comes, we put on whatever's handy--including boots left by visitors who didn't care enough about leaving to take their shoes with them--even if the owner is a girl and we're a boy or vice versa. We do what we have to to get out there. We have no fashion sense.
Only Clyde could say he owned everything he was wearing, but he preferred not to talk about it.
Our weekend across the street and in the snow came after the snow blocked the parking lots that led to the places we had planned to visit. Mother Nature insisted on our attention and got it. The kids found this hill that led to a parking lot except that they wiped out before it mattered. Before the day was over, they were helping some little kids have some fun in the snow. There's a science to a good ride that only big kids can teach to little kids.
At the end of this road was hot chocolate, Stratego, TV, and snowflakes. Some weekends go like that--and they're the best weekends we know.

ReplyDeletesounds fun but cold-like the hot chocolate afterwards...
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of hard to tell if your dog is into it or not.
ReplyDeleteHowever, those are the best weekends we know.
Reminds me of visiting cousin's ranches in Idaho in the winter. The mudroom had a huge collection of communal boots, galoshes, overcoats, jackets, sweatshirts, scarves, gloves, mittens.
None of it was color coordinated either and we also didn't care.
There is much wisdom in this post. I especially enjoyed the truth of your idea that some things have to be taught by children, and the lack of fashion sense is refreshing :) Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteYou all look great to me! Our daughter keeps a box of boots and one of sweaters and jackets and gloves -- that's they way they do it too.
ReplyDeleteAs long as you are warm! I am never colour coordinated. I am an embarrassment to my kids most days!
