One of the fringe benefits of teaching is that when you're doing it, it's all you do. There's not time for memories or regrets or dreams or going to the bathroom when you really need to. Just now my students are making a case for reading The Other Wes Moore in class. They are writing arguments from the heart for reading a book that come from the heart of its author. Finally, the rubber meets the road. They can write when they believe in the reason they're doing it.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Lin. Teaching students to think is important.It makes for powerful minds.
ReplyDeleteI always say you have to love your work then it stops being work and something you love. lol There is no such thing as burnout for example. Many business men love their work because it is who they are. They get stressed not working and joy in work.
What is good about teaching is that you work with young people and a thing called a future and this is a major joy to see your work grow up and become good people.

ReplyDeleteYes, to me teaching took all my time. And it was hard, but often rewarding. Nice that your kids are inspired to write, to argue for their cause. It sounds like a good book.

ReplyDeleteAgree with everyone and definitely second what Sylvia says! I used to be married to a teacher (wait a minute, that didn't sound quite right...What I mean is the person I'm married to used to be a teacher.)

ReplyDeleteRationality. Sometimes reasons don't suffice. I don't know how justified it sounds to you, but sometimes we better don't seek the reasons.
ReplyDeleteThough I'm yet 19, but I plan to adopt a kid and teach him how not to see reasons for feelings and understandings. How not to value things in quantity and seek quality. seems a little vague, but sometimes nothing matters, just feelings.
The longer I've been reading you, the more I know that your students are very lucky to have you as their teacher. Beautiful pic and I love the new banner.

Beautiful pic, as far as being a teacher, it takes somebody special to see the potential in a bunch of kids like my son and his friends. Great kids, but are they ever a mess.
