From Salem, MA |
The roses near the Salem Witch Trials Memorial lingered in the cool autumn days of Columbus Day weekend to honor, it seemed, those men and women accused of and executed for witchcraft in 1692. The memorial, dedicated by Nobel Laureate and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel in 1992. Those accused of witchcraft lost their property upon being accused, so making an accusation was a handy way for some folks to grow their wealth. A sad and disgraceful time.

Your photo says peace to me. Makes me sad to think that there's so much disgrace in our times too.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately there is indeed much disgrace not only in our history, but sadly in our current times as well. When do we learn??? Or do we ever??? I still hope you have a great weekend, Sandy!
ReplyDeletetruly sad! i like your image, though.
ReplyDeleteHistory is full of blood and fighting and it never stops if not for one thing then another.
ReplyDeleteThen we mourn for our misgivings.
How to resolve problems without battle and death?
Someone said send in the leaders creating the fight and then see how fast they stop.
Life from the start was like this im afraid, and nowadays its no better, nicely created post.
ReplyDeleteA really sad times those were ...
ReplyDeleteDreamy shot of the rose. So many horrible times of intolerance throughout history. When will we ever learn.
ReplyDeleteIntriguing piece of history - that this memorial was dedicated by
ReplyDeleteElie Wiesel .
Interesting post.
ReplyDeleteProperty seems to be a recurring backstory among many disgraceful things.
ReplyDeletedisgraceful deeds are almost ways motivated by hate and greed. Elie Wiesel was the perfect person to dedicate the memorial.

Love the way you chose to focus.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope this history doesn't repeat itself. Scary.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful capture of a simple rose!!!
ReplyDeleteThe fading rose adds the perfect touch to this memorial toone of too many sad chapters of history. I hope we don't forget it (yet again)... it is fitting that Elie Weisel dedicated the memorial.
ReplyDeleteInteresting post with a fine image.
ReplyDeletesimply gorgeous!
ReplyDeletelove it:)
A lovely photo Sandy. I know the story well of the Salem Witch trials. A dreadful event in those particularly superstitious days where you couldn't even keep a cat without being viewed as a witch.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being here.
