I was the pelican stalker in Surf City for a few nights last week. Fisherman would dump their bait overboard before taking their boats out of the water, and the pelicans were making the most of a free and easy meal. They put on quite a performance. Now and again, some cormorants would come in for a landing and bob around the big guys, who could not be bothered with the birds that didn't meet the height requirement on that ride.
