I came across this quote of Helen Hayes in mybirth year and liked it very much. It made me think of the things I've come to realize the thousand and one times I have walked this beach in every kind of light.
Every human being on this earth is born with a tragedy, and it isn't original sin. He's born with the tragedy that he has to grow up. That he has to leave the nest, the security, and go out to do battle. He has to lose everything that is lovely and fight for a new loveliness of his own making, and it's a tragedy. A lot of people don't have the courage to do it. (Helen Hayes, in Roy Newquist, Showcase, 1966)

Gorgeous shot, and I love that quote.
ReplyDeleteLooking back on life, I realize this quote is true.
ReplyDeleteAnd what a fabulous moonlit beach!
Oh, how true indeed and what marvelous words! A gorgeous capture, Sandy! I do love the silvery water. I'm so glad you're going to NC for Thanksgiving! Enjoy!!

Such a beautiful moonlit beach--how lucky you are to be able to enjoy the beauty and solitude of such a lovely place so often. What a great quote. How true that we must leave the safety of our first home and "make our own happiness" in a hostile world. It does take strength and courage to do that and succeed. Ah, life! Have a nice weekend. Sandy. Mickie :)
ReplyDeleteinteresting quote if you take it our real home is heaven and we come here to discover and live with tragedy-even some from their very young years because of death, illness or abuse. lovely photo!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous scene! Happy skywatching!
ReplyDeleteNow that is absolutely stunning!
ReplyDeleteMoon glow. Love it. It is a tragedy that we have to fight for what we want and need.
ReplyDeleteSo true. Look at all the people on the street today. It's unbelievable. There is no peace.

ReplyDeleteA terrific capture, and a lovely beach for contemplation.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful capture!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I agree with Helen Hays, I think growing up is an adventure although I must admit it took me a while to realize and appreciate that.
A gorgeous shot - and an ideal place to contemplate our Creator and His creation; to focus on the beauty that surrounds us and seek opportunities to lift up one another. Hope you enjoy a glorious weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt's an oxymoron to think of loveliness as a tragedy. . . but that quote gets one thinking. . .
ReplyDeleteSandy this is beautiful in so many ways!
ReplyDeleteI like your words here. And yes many people can't pass this so called tragedy of ours. Awesome shot!

Sandi
a powerful quote to consider
ReplyDeletethank you
and such a lovely image to take in
thank you
Beautiful beach -- great philosophy from Ms Hayes, that we have to create our own joy, our own beautiful world. (You sure have done a pretty good job I'd say -- most days I think I have ;>)
ReplyDeleteSo fascinating! I enjoy this fine picture!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo and thoughts Sandy
ReplyDeleteWhile I walked along the beach, I thought of you and your love for your favorite beach. I can understand why you photograph it often. Though you can't really posses it, the camera lets you freeze it, then enjoy it whenever you want. I took a million pictures in California.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this quote, though it made me sad, as I think of my grandson and the challenges of life that await him.
lovely! makes me want to jump in.
