One of the great treats about spending a season in the south is enjoying the longevity of flowers as well as the recurrent blossoming of them. When my daughter and I were at the New Hanover County Arboretum in August, we glimpsed some hosta, which would have been long gone in Connecticut at that point. I love this flower. My grandmother used to have loads of it in her backyard, so for me it is the macaroni and cheese of flowers--a comfort to experience for what it is and for all the associations it brings to mind. After my gram passed, my father dug up much of her hosta and brought it to our home. When we moved again, so did the flowers. When I had my own home, gram came to stay through her flowers. And there she was in North Carolina, much to my surprise and deep pleasure.

What a delightful flower! I don't think I've ever seen one! Love the color and you did get a terrific capture as always, Sandy! Hope your holiday weekend is going well!

fun how the sight or smell of flowers brings back memories. my grandmother always had hollihocks in their yard and today they still remind me of her.

That is some precious inheritance.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flower.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the heart-warming story.
We have white flower's hosta in my garden. I like also leaves as much as flowers.
Have a fabulous week.
Sarah
How lovely! And thanks for another fun contribution to last week's Limerick-Off!

Lovely memories with such beauty Sandy.
ReplyDeleteI was not able to get my nana's Sweet Peas from her garden after she passed away but they still follow me. Next year I intend to plant some so my nana will "stay through her flowers". That is a line of poetry.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a plant being the 'macaroni and cheese'...
ReplyDeleteA beautiful post!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely that you have this way of connecting with your grandmother... and that she lives on through such a beautiful flower. Something your daughter will always keep close to her, too.
ReplyDeleteLovely shot with all that bokeh!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful these little blooms instill such sweet memories.

Lovely flower, Sandy.
ReplyDeleteSweet post, beautiful flowers. I'd like to think that our Gramms are never really gone. Now I believe it.
ReplyDeleteHappy Labor Day too!
Hi Sandy, this is such a great close-up of the hosta flowers, makes you realize how pretty those blooms are. For some reason my hosta's did very poorly this year. Someone trimmed them for me and they didn't do well at all afterwards. I'm hoping they will come back to life next growing season.
ReplyDeleteDear Sandy, beautiful sentimental recollection of memories, all locked within a flower. Loved this post.;)
ReplyDeleteHave a great Monday,
xoxo
It is very pretty! :0) I love hostas too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for being here.
