Our World Tuesday: Sneads Ferry, North Carolina

From Jul 7, 2011
The above photo captures what I think is an exquisite example of multi-tasking.  Isn't it about time someone thought of bringing entertainment into the laundromat?
From Jul 14, 2011
Here again, multi-tasking where you need it most--at the water.  Just so long as they don't put the night crawlers in the same cooler as the marinated olives and such!
From July 22, 2011
Rounding the corner in this little village and business moves from one form of fishing to another.  We had passed one church's bulletin board that warned, "God lets you get away with it until suddenly...." (Really.  This had my daughter wondering out loud, "Who'd want to go in there?"  No answer came from the person getting away with things in the front seat!)  Then we came across this one, above.  We didn't stick around long enough to put the window down.  Truly, a drive-by.

From July 22, 2011
Here's another church that takes a gentler approach in its marketing.  Still, if I had to take my choice, I'll take my comfort in the sports bar, where I can get my laundry done, too.

From July 22, 2011

Preparing this post as Hurricane Irene has her way with the East Coast, I am also listening to the televised reporting of the storm.  There's a general acceptance that we are helpless at times like these and can only sit tight and take care of each other.  The waters will calm, and we'll be back out there again.  And nothing will be the same.

  1. Yep, that is my kind of laundromat. Those church signs are always interesting to read. There is one here that says "You think it is hot here". Ha...

Lovely shots. That sign saying: There's never been a storm that did not end is a pretty good metaphor for life!

  7. Next thing you know they'll have laundromats in churches so you can be washing your clothes while you pray. http://looseleafnotes.com

  11. Fun post Sandy. I see signs for some churches that would make me either die laughing or run the other way.

  12. Sandy -- thanks so much for cohosting 'our world'. I'm so happy to see it continuing. (Can't leave a comment on the blogsite itself, b/c of the way the comment form is set up.)

Your post here made me laugh out loud. We always read those signs aloud and usually laugh or at least smile! And you are right, some of them would chase me as far away as I could get. They must appeal to some people though.

  15. You can tell a lot with just a few words. Church signs are always so interesting. Their approach is perhaps more evident than what they realize and can either welcome or turn away passersby. News coverage of the storm has shown that some have found much comfort in places of worship.

  18. A great fun post Sandy. Yep, I guess I wouldn't mind shooting pool, a glass of something and a good tune while doing the laundry.

Sandy, I had all sorts of trouble lifting the logo. Finally ended up getting it off Sylvia's post. Still cannot manage to get one for my side-bar.

  20. Loved the dolphins leaping on the wall and the Church sign about *religious nuts* was hilarious.
Must have taken you a while to get all those signs snapped.

  21. Way back when, when the earth's crust was just cooling off, and I had to frequent laundromats I would have appreciated a little entertainment.

I've heard it said, and found it to be true once, that if you need help you'll more likely find it in a bar than a church.

The waiting for a storm is not fun. I sat through Hurricane Alicia in Houston a long time ago. The hardest part was waiting for the darn thing to show up.

those signs somehow makes you wonder.

  25. Long time since I have had to use a Laundromat, so my multi-tasking is loading my washing machine, turning it on, making a cup of tea and playing on the computer!
I like reading the blurbs from some of those church boards, some are hilarious, some true, and others very off-putting.

  27. Thank's for sharing this interesting little town. I think I'd join you in the laundromat. If there was a UU church, I might be there, I understand there is always coffee and conversation to be found there.
Thank you too for continuing a place to share views of the world. You and the rest of the crew have done us all a great service.

  28. Good Morning, Sandy. I want to thank you for hosting the new "Our World" . I am glad there was no serious damage to your world. With the price of gasoline it is good to multi task. Interesting church signs. My church is located in the woods where I walk.
