(General Douglas MacArthur)
This stealthy hunter seemed not to notice me and Dell when we came upon him at Airlie Gardens in Wilmington, North Carolina, in August. I was actually focused on the moss draping itself from the trees when it dawned on me there was a bird in the frame--a bird who was so unlike his northern relation down the road from home, here, that he didn't mind the sound of the camera warming up because he did not scold me. He just stood there. I guess he was hungry enough to put up with a pair of tourists.

amazing concentration, we could use some of that...lol!
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific capture! And he is focused, isn't he! Great post for the day, Sandy!

He sure is focused and knows what he wants. I admire him.
ReplyDeletePoised and Focused (and in focus) - sorry I couldn't help it.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great shot Sandy, so peaceful to look at.
ReplyDeleteHugs, G
This one must be used to tourists. The Great Blue Herons around here usually take off squaking if we get near them. What a nice experience. It looks warm with that moss hanging from the trees.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great picture. I'm glad he agreed to pose for you.
ReplyDeleteI stumbled upon one this past weekend. Searching for food in the ditches after the flooding. :) I love the mossy touch!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo!! I too am glad he held that pose for you. Ha!

Isn't it great when you find something previously unseen in your shot?

Beautiful bird and shot.
ReplyDeletethe wisdom behind those great words - i like.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture, with the muted colors and detailed texture.
ReplyDeleteI suppose when one is in deep concentration, or just very hungry, it is easy to overlook a couple of tourists.
My WW is here:

sometimes they will stand there forever...or usually about 5 seconds short of when I get my camera out...lol
ReplyDeletenice capture.
That is such a sensational shot.
ReplyDeletePoor bird.
ReplyDeleteThere are two large turtles holding him down by his legs underwater.
Sneaky turtles.
But the bird will try and try to get away, over the weeks and the months, thus building up tremendous flying muscles until one day, when the turtles will get the surprise of their lives.
And a flying lesson.
All at once.

What a nice-looking bird! And the hanging moss makes the picture beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSandy: Always love those Great Blue Herons.
ReplyDeleteGreat capture!
ReplyDeleteVery cool shot, Sandy. You are soooo lucky it didn't fly off!
ReplyDeleteI think you were meant to meet this hunter.
