I took my nephews and my daughter to the Poplar Grove Plantation in Wilmington, North Carolina, last week. The magnolia trees on the grounds of this very interesting place were gorgeous. Here was the sole blossom open on a sultry summer day. More pictures of the plantation are here.

I always find magnolias so decadent - their look and their smell.

ReplyDeleteVery Beautiful. The curves and folds of the petals so well captured.
ReplyDeleteThose flowers are too cool... Some are made of steel also...
ReplyDeleteI bet that smelled good!

The magnolia is a southern icon. I am always amazed to see them growing wild in forests in the south. Such a beautiful tree. A friend of mine always cuts those blooms and floats them in a beautiful glass dish. They last for days.
ReplyDeleteI miss North Caroline and your beautiful picture brings back some lovely memories.;)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Sunday,

You've down south, that's why you have magnolias?? We have a lovely new tree that blooms in the spring and shakes all its petals early.
ReplyDeleteLovely bloom, Sandy. Magnolias are in their best element at this time of the year. :)
ReplyDeleteNothing like magnolia blossoms to let you know you are in the south.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend with the name Magnolia

Lovely, Sandy. I wouldn't have thought there'd be any blossoms now...but I only know about the magnolias that bloom in Canada (I'm sure they are different), which bloom in spring.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun when these trees bloom again. Hope you are having a great time down south.
ReplyDeleteI always want to rub my fingers on magnolia petals. . .amazing and unique. Thanks for sharing the beauty [and I can feel the humidity reading your post]
ReplyDeleteHappy vacation!
You're in the Wilmington area? Very cool. I'm in the RDU area. Anyways, I love magnolia trees and blossoms. They're probably my favorite. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThough I've been in the San Francisco area for 33 years, it always does my Georgia heart good to see a magnolia!!

I enjoyed writing this magpie and it was fun doing a story instead of poetry for a change!

I'm pleased you liked my foray into short fiction - a little break for the poet!

I knew someone who was "so in love" she signed away everything in a prenup! She got nothing, really, when they divorced and she was really very bitter. It's nice when you're wielding the pen, you can make it turn out however you wish!

You made me laugh...it seems like Fran should have held out for a little more in her prenup!

I'm glad my little short stories have kept you entertained. I've always wanted to do a novel but can't seem to get started on it...to many distractions. I'll have to go to a mountaintop.
At 65, I've done it! My poetry book - Life's Journey by Carmen Henesy - is out on Amazon!
( Poems about the things that have been important to me in my journey through life, some humorous, some sad, some that may have meaning to you as well )

I'm going to have to remember Poplar Grove the next time we're in the Wilmington area.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being here.
