Today's Flowers: Airlie Gardens, North Carolina

flwer

Here's a flower blooming in a wonderful but neglected part of Airlie Gardens outside Wilmington, North Carolina. A beautiful place. My daughter and I visited the gardens last week. There we saw a 450-year-old oak tree, a butterfly house, a sculpture garden, and countless other beautifully landscaped areas. The site was once the playground of a rich couple who liked to entertain their guests in style!

  10. It sounds like a place I would like to visit. You get that far south you start seeing those tropical plants.

  11. When you and Adella bake a birthday cake for the 450 year old elm, with candles spaced one inch apart so they don't melt each other, the round cake will need to be 2' in diameter. Please check my math.

Now, how long will it take to light 450 candles with one match? If we don't plan it, the first candle will be burned all the way down before we get very far!

I like Greg's comment about the birthday cake for the 450 year old tree - sometimes math geeks can be so interesting!
