A miracle of circumstance
Like a great cosmic hand
Pulls together
Earth and air
Light and water
To transform dust
Into a blossom
You are a wild thing
And you are beautiful--
The sun at the center of a
Great green cosmos
Until some child comes along
Yanks you up in one pull
Says some nonsense
And it's off with your head
Though you are a miracle.
You go to seed
Another child takes you in hand
You hear wishes--
Something for herself--
And she blows your seed
Across the universe
If the stars you have become
Scatter in just the right way
Her dream comes true

lovely poem that captures the essence of a spectacular photo.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem to suit the beautiful snap. I had no ides that, you write poems also.
ReplyDeleteI SO enjoyed this poem, Sandy!
ReplyDeleteAloha
ps: photo was "pro" too ;-)
When I was a young child we would gather dozens of dandelions to blow into the breeze. We weren't taught to wish on them... but to tell them our dreams and then blow our dreams into the hands of the ancient fairies that hid in the tall grass. My mother used to tell me to watch the little starbursts as they flew and remember all the directions my dreams could carry me...
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely post... It brought back some delightful memories for me.
Wonderful poem, Sandy. And the photo of the dandelion is excellent too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful words to go with beautiful "flower."
ReplyDeleteLovely photo and post. Reminds me of childhood and many forgotten summers!
ReplyDeletenice green background!
ReplyDeletea miracle of circumstance? center of the universe? off with your head? scattered dreams?
ReplyDeleteI re-read this several times, and each time, I enjoyed it more. As lovely as it read to think of it from the perspective of the dandelion is also reads quite well as a metaphor for motherhood.
Absolutely love this, Sandy!
As if a great cyclical oneness.
ReplyDeleteWonderful.
From the cosmos to a child's hand and many memories in between. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteWow -- love the line "the stars you have become". More than 30 years ago, I was nanny to a child of 2, who cried when his father ruthlessly mowed down the "parachute flowers" in the lawn. Never did understand why people don't want dandelions in their yards.
ReplyDeleteLoved this one-especially the 'off with your head' line. I've always had a special fondness for dandelions.
ReplyDeletelovely & I love dandelions, they're so fragile and yet they keep appearing
ReplyDeletePerfect poem for one of nature's wonders.
ReplyDeleteYou've captured the essence of prayer. Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteVery nice, Sandy. I was just waiting to be scattered.
ReplyDeleteDo you think we are like one of those scattered wind blown seeds? I had a conversation today after Sunday school with a lady. She said we were so fortunate to be blessed like we are, living where we do. My reply was 'yes, we are either blessed or it could be a curse (on us).'
..
great poem and pic My Dear Friend!
ReplyDeleteThat is all we know _
ReplyDeletecan one know it all or understand all of it _

Sandy: Beautifully written.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter love picking those..
ReplyDeleteYou took me back with this poem. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOSI: the air hisses and crackles
I like what you've managed to do, carrying away her wish like the scattering of seed
ReplyDeleteDear Sandy--
ReplyDeleteThis is a spectacular run at denouement.
I wish I'd said that!! Thank you--
Transitory to the very end - nice!
ReplyDeleteI am sitting here with my mouth open. There are so many wonderful lines and images. So well done. This piece is its own story with it's own quiet resolve - denouement.
ReplyDelete"Like a great cosmic hand

Sandy this is brilliant!
When I was dreaming of doing this OSI my subject was dandelions too! But the weekend was spent in the wild instead...
lovely poem and photo!
Each seed aloft in its own parachute, the capsule of a dream. I have a deep affection for dandelions. Growing up in the Bronx, we made bouquets and wreaths of them. They were the yellow yolk of our days.
ReplyDeleteI just love this Sandy! What a perfect interpretation of the dandelion "weed"...so much more than that isn't it? Hope you have a peaceful ending to your year. I love the Wordless Wednesday picture and the irony too! Take care~
ReplyDeleteThanks for being here.
