The geese are up and about and giving me heart palpitations lately. I live near a broad, wide road that borders a swamp where they do their swimming and fine dining. There is water on either side of the road, and these rascals tend to go to and fro very much like they own the place, which I think they do. But don't tell that to the self-important idiots driving at crazy speeds to get from one end of the road to the other. The same fools will honk their car horns in attempt to rush these animals who won't be rushed. People are crazy.
If I'm out for a walk and see the geese in the road, I stand in the middle and play crossing guard. I am a bigger target for the nut cases, but killing me might come with a jail term (or not--I am after all fool enough to stand in the middle of the road), so they might slow down.
Am I Mother Goose or just a crazy lady with a camera? Call me what you want; just go easy around my birds!

Sandy: Nice captures, I also stop for them but in the car. They may not stop for a guy.
ReplyDeleteThe geese are so sweet, it's easy to understand why you want to protect them.
ReplyDeleteJust be careful, please . . .
look at those little fuzzy balls of wonder. beautiful they are. you are so kindly to help them make their trip from one side of the road to the other...something no doubt i would find myself doing too.
ReplyDeletetake care
Oh, Sandy, they're so beautiful! And your photos are fantastic! I do the same thing whenever I'm -- hopefully we won't all end up in the same place -- on the bumper of some idiots car!
ReplyDeleteSandy you sound so much like me. I wish we lived close to each other and we could set up a goose patrol schedule. Great shots!
ReplyDeleteI loved this photo. You've reminded me of a time I was caught in traffic outside a shopping mall. Someone came walking from the opposite direction, and I rolled down the window and asked if he knew why the front car was moving so slowly. There was a family of ducks walking down the road--and we were all following at their speed! Nobody rushed them or chased them away. I still smile at that.
ReplyDeleteSandy, these are great pictures and I just love the little feathered family!
ReplyDeleteSincerely hope they never get killed on the road and make sure you don't either.
Such pretty pics. And yes I think you are Mother Goose :)
ReplyDeletebe careful, i can understand your caring...and worry.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. I think you are Mother Goose impersonating a lady with a camera.
ReplyDeleteSandy, the photos are delightful. I know exactly what you mean. It is heartbreaking to see them cross a busy road. I saw duck parents with thier brood in the middle wanting to cross the road. I was ready to give them a helping hand, but the mother duck waited until the road was empty and then off they went. Luckily the road was only 2 lanes.
ReplyDeleteThey made it before the next cars came. Here I have seen them with Police escort crossing a busy road!
Oh Sandy, I wish I could be there to watch you (or take turns) usher the geese across the road with their little ones... BTW does the Canadian goose look different from the gander? They all look alike to me...
ReplyDeleteGreat photographs Momma Goose.
ReplyDeleteSo loveable and nice to see them in line. Thanks for the visit. :) Neat and nice world you have there.
ReplyDeleteOh wonderful you for looking after these beautiful creatures. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe geese can't thank you, so I'll do it for them. I don't understand why people won't slow down for animals.
ReplyDeleteLovely Pics there Mother Goose Camera Lady!
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing to compare the ones i took of them a few weeks ago to the ones you took today, They are so big now.
These shots are AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteGreat family shots of those geese...so cute!!
ReplyDeleteMom is the best. She is there for her kids. Just like the human, mothers are always the first one to guide and comfort and teach their kids. When my son is very young, I could hear him crying from a distance but my hubby thought I am dreaming and true enough my mom brought my son to look for me when I was on my way to work. My son was crying for mummy and wanted to follow me to work...lol
ReplyDeleteSo they have decided where to go for their family outing and are on their way to the destination.... ;D
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the geese, I have some in my entry this week as well. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week

So proud to know you, crazy goose lady! St. Francis would understand, and so do I. Aloha-
ReplyDeleteCute little babies. I think they are also scared of the honking, they tend to stick close to each other.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking care of that precious family! BUT be careful too!
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing the little family again thru your eyes. . . so precious! You ae really lucky!
I read your post and wondered if anyone would call you crazy. :) Thankfully everyone else seems to agree, you're doing goood! Cute photos...
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by
Such sweet geese. You are not the only one who stops for them. I'm glad you watch out for them to keep them safe.
ReplyDeleteThese are very attentive parents. Good for you to stop traffic, just don't get hurt. Maybe a "Geese Crossing" sign.
ReplyDeleteYou are Mother Goose. Definitely Mother Goose. And that's very good.
ReplyDeleteLovely sequence of photos, Sandy!
ReplyDeleteYeah! What's up with people honking, thinking the ducks/geese will know what that means?!
ReplyDeletelove the 2nd pic the best...
ReplyDeleteand you take care please...
You captured some beautiful photos. Haven't the geese learned yet that asphalt means danger? No, you're not crazy. Can't they make that stretch of road 15 mph?
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful and good on you for coming to their aide "Mother Goose" but please do be careful Sandy. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSmiles
Great job, I would love to do that too, no matter what others would think.
ReplyDeleteI liked the quote, perfect for the text. :)
Thanks for your celebration and care for life and nature. As you say, the crazy drivers would not like to be held up for facing all the troubles that comes along with the killing of a human. Make a poster or something for warning; "crazy people on the road, slow down!" have a great watch!
ReplyDeleteMore power to you, I'd probably guard them with a shotgun and get arrested myself.
ReplyDelete...is good for the gander! Sandy, you're a brave girl. It's a day's job to guard all those little rascals. Thanks for sharing them!
ReplyDeleteSandy,
ReplyDeleteI do the same..
Stopping the traffic for racoons, geese, even skunks if they walk across the raod with their offspring.
Cheers Gisela.
Awwww, such cute pictures....Love the fuzzy little things.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute family ! Mamma goose with her little once. One should put some ribbon with nails over the street, that would calm down those crazy drivers !
ReplyDeleteMother Goose! I see it all very clearly.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos...just wonderful...and great posts lately too..have just been enjoying reading them!
ReplyDeleteOh Sandy, what a lovely story. I can picture you doing this, being a goose-crossing guard. What a kind person you are. I'm sure mom and babes appreciate your efforts. Love the photos too.
ReplyDeleteHugs, G
People are in such a hurry to get...where? They miss seeing everything but their destination.
ReplyDeleteFarmers here hate geese. I never see a lot of geese crossing the road here, that must be natural selection...
ReplyDeleteIn the city I sometimes see geese cross the road, and there it isn't a big problem, people there aren't allowed to drive very fast anyway, so more time to think, more time to let their conscience speak!
You go girl, c
ReplyDeleterossing guard photographer to the rescue! Wonderful photos!
I think you are a precious Mother Goose! Good for you! enJOY your day!
ReplyDeleteNope, you're not crazy - you're doing a good thing, a Mom thing, and we need more people to do that.
ReplyDeleteDespite the mess geese leave on the lawns, and their omnipresence in places I like to live, I always look forward to their birthing season.
You have expressed it beautifully, eggs-istentially!
Sandy, here's what I meant:

Cool collection here..They do grow fast!
ReplyDeleteThose are very cool photos of the geese and goslings !!
ReplyDeleteDon't blame you at all for playing crossing guard ... I've been known to do the same thing :-)
Those are really lovely photos..
I would do the same! I have stopped o the freeway at night for deer crossing, and prayed the cars would not hit ME!
ReplyDeleteMake sure to wear your neoprene orange jumpsuit, Sandy...and carry on!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed this a lot--
Lovely little babies, I would be stresses as well.
ReplyDeletea very strong message sandy. nice for you to share this. something everyone should know.
ReplyDeleteThe geese are lucky to have such a devoted advocate. And we're lucky she has a camera!
ReplyDeleteSane is overrated.
Lovely goose family growing fast, lucky for them your there to give them some protection.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful snaps. That is a very kind gesture from you. Good to know there are few people still around who care for others. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteSandy, I am sitting here at 3:45 in the mornign and I am laughing so hard over this post. A Crazy lady with a camera? Well, perhaps just a sensitive soul! :-) Great post!
ReplyDeleteYour story is akin to what I read not long ago about a man rescuing a hen and her chicks.
ReplyDeleteAin't these creatures worth saving? They are so cute!!!! Thanks for these beautiful sharing. You have a good heart!
I love geese with their babies! What an adorable set of photos!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for being here.
