Skywatch Friday: Angels--or Something--in the Architecture

IMG 6704

While I was moseying around the Waterbury Green on Sunday morning, I noticed these cloth-draped urns at the top of the Roman Catholic church there. I couldn't stop staring because the faLL of the fabric seemed to create the image of a face. Somebody shouted, "Hey lady, stop taking pictures of our church," which I thought was about as ridiculous as my trying to capture an image of a hallucination. Oh well. Welcome to Waterbury.

  1. I hate it when people shout ignorant comments when I am thinking about something. Like when I am in the front garden and people drive by and shout 'get a job'. What do they think I am doing?

I can see the face in those folds. They must be angels if they are on a church.

  2. Very funny, I like the hair too! The angel looks very righteous. Good thing she doesn't look at me.

  3. I wanted to enlarge it so I could see that too BUT it didn't enlarge. I can't imagine what i is. I also can;t imagine why they shouted that at you.

  4. yes, indeed the draping does lend itself to a face...with the longish center piece resembling a snout...errr nose :)

i don't know what it is about people and churches ... i had my flash off in the many i visited in italy and still NO PHOTOGRAPHS...unreal...though some of the best stuff I was allowed to photograph.

    have a blessed day sandy.

  6. maybe they the shouters were just jealous that you found something so commonly seen so interesting. a camera does give you another eye for viewing reality.

  7. Yes, I see a face! And I'm sure the church is still standing, unscathed despite you taking those pictures - tsk tsk! ;-)

People. Can't live with 'em, can't shoot 'em.

  11. Thanks for dropping by. I am sorry for not visiting here for a while. My father-in-law passed away and we buried him last Saturday. Your
angelic sculpture is so timely while our clan rest from our grief.

  12. I can't believe they yelled at you. Like nobody's ever taken a picture of a church before.
    I can see the face!

Sometimes the ignorant ones go out of their way to ruin things for others. Bummer.

    Beautiful shot and observation.

I'm still working on Thursday, no where near Friday posts yet :(

  19. I can kind of imagine a face there.
Funny that someone would want to stop you from taking photos of the church.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Can't imagine why someone would want you to stop. Aren't people strange sometimes? I just ignore them.
    Lovely picture.

  21. That's just silly, Sandy! "Stop taking pictures of our church!" What is the church hiding something? Ha! :) Good shot though!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh my goodness! I see the eyes and nose too. It's not a hallucination, Sandy...unless we are all suffering from the same malady. ;-)

  23. This doesn't surprise me at all. As a photographer for a living you are so how aware of how suspicious people have become. A real shame. You captured a real beauty.

  24. I love this shot Sandy and I can see the face in the folds of the fabric. That is silly that someone shouted that at you. I would have been tempted to have said, I'm taking pictures of my Church, I didn't realize it was yours too.

  25. My first reaction was its a finiale (sp?) then an urn .. then I read the caption, LOL .. its a great shot, Sandy!

And you should of told those people they don't own a church.
    Only God does.

    ReplyDelete
  31. It does look like a face. But why you should not take pictures of the church is beyond me. I think you have caught it well.

It is a beautiful shot and you are right there is a face with a long nose and the little nobby at the top looks like a head from the back with those ringlet hair dos from way back when! Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful weekend.

  43. I can't imagine anybody at our Catholic church saying anything about taking pictures. I've taken a ton both inside and out. People are funny about "outsiders" though. I wonder if they'd have said something if they didn't know me.

  58. Stop taking pictures of our church - not very religious like if you ask me.
I love the image and yes, I too see a face.
    Have a blessful Easter Sandy!

    Thanks for stopping by.

  59. That is entirely ridiculous! Not your shot - that is brilliant and you're right - it does look like a face.

I was trying to take a photo of my son at a football match and was stopped - "Child protection. You need the permission of the other parents." I told them I only wanted a photo of MY son but it made no difference and I accepted and abided by the rules.

Afterward, in the hall, the children were all together and being given awards. Many parents were photographing the event without being challenged - so I did too and was not challenged. How come there is no worry over "child protection" now?
Very strange world we live in.

  61. Surprising what you can spot if you just look. A long nose and narrow eyes with great circles under them!

    ReplyDelete
  62. You captured a real beauty!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I never would have seen the face without you, but it's lovely! I like it as an illustration to the thought that bidden or unbidden, God is there: we might not see our guardians and holy spirits, but they're likely watching us even as we think it.

Whoever shouted maybe just wanted your attention, thinking you were a cutie. (that's what I tell myself when it happens to me LOL)
