April is about water.
It is about the submerging of all things
For thirty days and nights
About soaking up every bit of life
Becoming water itself
April water claims this river
Sweeps away trees
Whose ancient hold on this earth
Its has loosed
Water takes away
The ground
On which these trees and I
Once stood sure
April is about water
Racing like a messenger
On a life-or-death mission
Except that water
Has no mission;
Water is a state of being.
Water is life.

interesting meaning on many different levels-how about the tears that water our souls?
ReplyDeleteThoughtful...
ReplyDeleteNice piece of writing.

This was my favorite part- water claiming a river...
It is a body, after all. The first medicine. Soak it up.
ReplyDeleteYou chose "Live" evoking "Living Water" but opening our eyes in a fresh way. Well done, Sandy. Aloha

I never thought of April like this. Thanks for giving me a different perspective!
ReplyDeletedrumming water
Of all the elements, I love water the most. Maybe it's the way it washes away, maybe it's because each of our cells is 2/3rds water. Thanks Jacqueline.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully said.
ReplyDeleteInteresting progress toward the metaphorical idea that water is a state of being! Very artistic!
ReplyDeleteLoved this, Sandy. I am always drawn to water. It is a fundamental part of life!
ReplyDeleteThis flowed deep just like the water...beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis speaks to me on several levels. Not the least of which is the one where nature takes back her own. Right behind that is the peaceful power of the ocean and how it puts everything in proper perspective.
ReplyDeleteLovely photograph too.
As I was reading the comments above, I was struck by gautami's comment and realized that spring does not always mean rain and water to folks in other biomes, but here in the eastern U.S. both north and south, we do seem to have lots of April showers. I love your poem, Sandy, because the rains of spring do have a life of their own that is sometimes at cross purposes with human intentions!
ReplyDeleteI heard an interview with a guy who said that we (humans) are the highest form of expression for water. Funny, I don't remember who said it but the thought lingers. Mostly because it's so arrogant. I mean why aren't we the lowest expression....? ;)
ReplyDeleteLovely poem - of course
" April is about water
ReplyDeleteRacing like a messenger

Sandy, I really love this poem. It filled my cup to overflowing. Thank you for this gift.
ReplyDeleteLovely words and the title... The title just encapsulates it with the picture for me.
ReplyDeleteI can hear the live water. :)
your words have a beautiful movement.
ReplyDeleteI love to leisurely float on the water of the days.
ReplyDeleteWater takes the ground we stand on. Is there any certainty that could not be loosed by the ineluctable flow?
ReplyDelete"April is about water. It is about the submerging of all things."
Beautiful.
Very charming poem, Sandy.
ReplyDeleteI like the words: Water is a state of being. / Water is life.

ReplyDeleteExcellent. I love your take on water as the messenger, the un-doer and the re-doer.
ReplyDeleteA perfect description of April. Winter's water soaking in to a saturated ground, and sending back green in it's place.
ReplyDeletewow! the april-is-the-cruellest month syndrome appears to have blown away to refreshing optimism.
ReplyDeleteam a first time visitor to your blogs. enjoyed the posts.
sandy that is beautiful... this conjures up so many deep thoughts and images... like a stone that is well worn to soften the edges... then again thrs the grand canyon... just this morning they spoke of a huge tree over 70 years old that came crashing down along a highway onto a traveling passing car...
ReplyDeleteBeautifully stated..."water is life" yes it is; on all sorts of levels.
ReplyDeleteThank you for such great poetry and wonderful pictures!
ReplyDeleteI've had water on my mind-so this is perfect for me this week!
ReplyDelete"Water is a state of being.
ReplyDeleteWater is life."
YES!
I like how you repeated:
April is about water
somehow that makes it soak (;-) in.
Wonderful poem about NOW
Torrents from those April showers can cause havoc and chaos.
ReplyDelete..
I think the importance of water is shown by our creator when the human was designed with a composition of almost 80% water.
ReplyDelete... and to be really Clean...only WATER can do it in a complete way...so, it just goes to show...we need the Water inside and all over the body to maintain life.
I have to agree with you Sandy, to much or too little kills.
ReplyDelete"water is a state of being"
"water is life"
I love water, it's the place where I go to create.
Thanks for being here.
