I forgot to bring in this terra cotta angel last fall. A winter's worth of snow corroded her face but left her wings intact for the most part. I wonder what it's like to be a set of wings with no angel to call your own. (The fallen angel poem is here.)

Perhaps they'll become the wings of the next angel to earn it's wings. Listen for a bell.
ReplyDeletea new pair earned, perhaps??? this begs a poem...
ReplyDeleteYour thoughts on the page (screen) prompt such careful meditation.
ReplyDeleteGreta shot too - the texture and colours are striking.
It's a sad sort of image to me. It evokes some serious contemplation... and qualcosa di bello stated it perfectly. It begs a poem.
ReplyDeletecan they still dance on the head of a pin? aloha-
ReplyDeleteSoon to have new wings..I think so too!
ReplyDeleteOh no, poor dear... yes, a poem in there definitely.
ReplyDeletePerhaps about how what drives us on and makes us fly (our ambitions, dreams, kids?) can destroy (or survive) what makes us unique, our 'face'.
Or the wings simply represent time... and the angel's face succumbed, as all ours do.
All right, I'm tired and rambling. But what an image you've got there. So much to think on.
funny...waiting for the poem to appear tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteJust remember Angels had guitars before they had wings according to Marvin Lee Aday.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot and I like the rest are clamoring for the poem to follow.
An intriguing image indeed!
ReplyDeleteOh I just started BYBS today and I'm still finishing up my list. Hope I get included in the blogroll soon. Now I wanna go over every link.
Wow. I had no idea that one winter's worth of weather could do such a number on terra cotta. I mean I've got terra cotta pipe that's been doing drainage work for years without falling apart. Was this piece not fired or something? Or is your winter just that brutal?
ReplyDeleteI'm almost afraid to read that poem, but you know I will anyway. Who could resist with a tag line like that?
Oops. I was worried about something like that happening to my lil angel, thankfully she's still in my garage. :)
ReplyDeletei like the simplicity of this layout. better keep this and maybe just add a beautiful header like this photo.
ReplyDeletewonderful post, wonderful photo and texture
ReplyDeletePoor little angel. Earth to Earth and Dust to Dust?
ReplyDeleteThere's still beauty in disarray.
ReplyDeletePoor angel. I hope it will mend itself and fly away. :P
ReplyDeleteThat's so sad! Hope it grows another pair so she can freely fly.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite sad but you can always hold on to her lovely images in your mind.
ReplyDeleteI like to think angels could rise and fly again after a fall. I enjoyed reading your poem.
ReplyDeletegreat shot and heartbreaking to see....my entry is here http://kcelebration.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteRead the poem Sandy!
ReplyDeleteSo true with the shot!
I don't know, maybe like the phoenix, an angel will rise again and find the wings. Or an earth angel will pass by and make them her wings.
ReplyDeleteAw that is sweet and a little sad they will just have to land on the nearest angelic person like you or your daughter:)
ReplyDeleteI would imagine it is very lonely. If you are merely a set of wings, there is no one to uplift....
ReplyDeletePeace - D
I love your blogs new look Sandy. I'm sorry about your fallen angel. All of my garden statues are very weather beaten as I never bring them out of the elements. My St. Francis was my parents and after 60 some years outside is looking pretty old. Since he's older than I am I figure that's okay. Now that I think of it I also have a little angel that was my parents too and she looks like a fallen angel but I kind of like weather beaten garden art.
ReplyDeleteSandy, the photo, the poem... "Get used to it, Angel" This poem is THE ONE! I love it! :)
ReplyDeletethe old one was broken bec he need a space for a new wings..

ReplyDeleteread the poem there, Sandy...good message, :)
ReplyDeleteremember my father saying don't make them feel they are angels, angels are poised to descend...
let them be goddess who can listen to and understand problems...and then work ways out :)
