Skywatch Friday: The Masons Make a Wave

IMG 6252

While my daughter was at choir practice on Tuesday, I went for a walk around Waterbury. The day was bright and clear and my sights were up when I took in this view of the top of what was the Masonic Temple but is now the Mattatuck Museum. The oxidized copper was bright and vivid against the blue of the late afternoon sky.

  2. fun photo, like the angle and colors...masons were early temple builders and have many symbols on/in their buildings. a fascinating book you'd probably enjoy is Matthew B. Brown and Paul Thomas Smith, "The Salt Lake Temple," Symbols in Stone : Symbolism on the Early Temples of the Restoration about mormon temples.

  3. Wow. The contrast is so good in this I had to double check to make sure that wasn't a clipping path along the edge!

    Marvelous!

A nice photo for SkyWatch Friday. As one who is always interested in what other people do, and looking for ideas, I think I found some here. I just have to remember it and at my age that is no small feat.

  18. Isn't that simply wonderful! Such time and effort they used to put into structures! Such a shame they don't!

  26. One of those images when only full blown colour will do. The curves and colours really do compliment each other.

  33. The picture is beautiful, but it doesn't look natural. It seem molded somehow. Could be my old tired eyes playing tricks on me.

I dare say, you do have an eye for details.

  37. As an art student we used ColorAid paper .. and when you'd fan out the sheets the various colors would play off one another .. this reminds of that .. so nice!

  40. I love walking around seeing things one doesn't usually notice when in a car because one is usually in a hurry to get some place. The details are a pleasure to view. We have some very old buildings here -- more than 100 years old anyway and I love looking up to see the "artwork" too! You have a lovely blue sky --we had that last Wednesday!
