Swayed into darkness
With the music of storms
Music, the partner of night
Stripped bare in the dance
Bare yet rooted yet reaching
Rooted deeper into the unfathomable
Deep and naked night
The clothes of day lay at my feet
Crumpled, wet,and ruined
Crumpled, wet, and ruined
I stood as a silent intruder
Watching this strange and sacred act
One late October evening
Disguised, like I said,
As November
Disguised, as I was,
I could not turn away.
One Single Impression

Branches without their leaves seem incomplete.
ReplyDeleteDeep and enchnating. very nice. I'll read more of your posts... I believe they are works of art.
ReplyDelete..mystical & beautiful..many thanks..
ReplyDeleteThose are very bare indeed. Autumn is not that far advanced here, but we have had the first night frosts.
ReplyDeleteYou do write the most beautiful poems.
ReplyDeleteDelightful - and deeply enshrined in the mysteries of nature.
ReplyDeleteFabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your walk along the beach today!! Don't get too cold tho, okay?
A process I never tire of seeing. As much as I love the leaves of autumn, bare trees have a special beauty of their own.
ReplyDeleteSome of my favorite moments have come when the weather changes and one month masquerades as another. Of course, I didn't quite realize it until just now when I read your poem... Thanks Sandy!
ReplyDeleteThe first time I saw my Pecan Orchard was in January and all the trees were bare, yet full of the promise of what beauty the spring would bring! I just love this, Sandy!
ReplyDeleteDear Sandy--
ReplyDeleteI dance with this--lovely thing!
Are you familiar with Francis Thompson's 'Hound of Heaven'? For some reason, this poem made me think of that poem. Here's the link to it in it's entirety, although the first stanza is the most potent...

Thank you, Sandy--this is wonderful poetry.
a voyeur of misplaced season...very melancholic & hypnotic
ReplyDeletewow your poem is powerful and many different levels.
ReplyDeleteI must have the wrong link on my side bar, wondered where you was. Even when the trees have lost their leaves, they still make a bold statement. You know I love your poems....
ReplyDeleteWow-love the thought of seeing something sacred. Seems if we opened our eyes we would be privy to more.
ReplyDeletedisguised as November
ReplyDeleteSo perfectly our October!
I really like how you chose to end this poem. The last lines speak of the inevitability of time moving forward. You used such great images of movement.
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that we've used some common images on our way to different destinations -- isn't that the way of life!
ReplyDeleteLovely poem, Sandy.
ReplyDeleteMarie
I like the visual of bare branches. It reminds me of the importance of building a solid structure to hang the leaves of daily experiences on. We shed our experiences from time to time. People move on and drop from our lives, memories lie still a while and flutter to the back of our minds... but the trunk of our faith, the branches of our family and limbs of our hope for the future remain for new experiences to attach themselves to so that we can nourish and be nourished for a season....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and deep as always. I love your poetry. The season's journey does seem to be a month ahead of itself this year.
ReplyDeleteHi Sandy, your poem is similar to Sue's in thought (not in words at all). To her I wrote:
ReplyDelete"... your ... (Connecticut for you) landscape is similar to the one we had in New Hampshire. We couldn't see and appreciate it until the trees lost their leaves. We also loved the dense foliage of the trees, Mother Nature knows how to give us both scenarios."
I always looked forward to that time of year.
..
BTW, I try to keep the 'Jim's Little' blogs very decent. Several young people are reading them, most with their moms. Not that I would want to post indecent material, it is just that my sense of humor is a little on the weird side.
I met another pair, mother and son, last week on our journey to Guatemala.
..
one of your best works yet Sandy!
ReplyDeleteYour poetry made me feel as if I were there experiencing it!
ReplyDeleteNature changes her disguises every Season.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this.
Fantastic poem, Sandy.
ReplyDeleteI like the photograph too.
Thanks for sharing.
Sandy, I love that so much. It is so true. Such a vulnerable time!
ReplyDeleteOne single impression of starkness and the sense of being urged, ready or not, into newness.
ReplyDeleteVery nice. It is a mystical experience...
ReplyDeleteSpoken as from the heart of a mystic yet very personal and concrete.
ReplyDelete"disguised as i was, i couldnt turn away"
ReplyDelete- i truly know this feeling
We all watch and live through the seasons. Such a beautiful piece Sandy. Very in the moment. And as you intend, disguised.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being here.
