This week's blessing is an image I saw on Michelle's blog. It is a picture of an unkempt, bearded, barefoot man sleeping on a park bench with a cardboard sign in front of him that says, "Traded everything for love."
I love everything about this image: the romantic spirit, the peace, the freedom.
I like the idea that trading everything for love is worth doing even if it costs you the socks and shoes on your feet.
I found myself wondering who, aside from the sleeping hippie in the picture, does this. I thought of the people I know: my parents, who bend over backwards to help with their three grandchildren and to enjoy their company; the parents of terminally ill children who have invested their own lives into the well-being of these kids; parents who set aside personal goals to raise their kids; a friend who invests all her resources into the well-being of sick and abandoned animals; military personnel who lay it on the line all over the world and do good in ways we never hear about.
Then, of course, the obvious paid me a visit: Buddha, Jesus, Gandhi, Mother Teresa....
Trade everything for love. It's doable.

Sandy, someone at another blog posted pictures of some of the Olympic athletes and said she loves seeing their family members crying with joy. It occurred to me that those family members are athletes of the spirit. They have to support the passion of their family member 100%. Another way of trading everything for love. As is the life of the physical athlete. So much to love. So much to trade for that love.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post, and as ever, stunning photograph.
A spectacular flower. lovely yellow color!

I'll send a email to inform the date that their photo will be posted.
I think that I get explain my idea? (with my insufficient English English)!
Wow!! Very difficult for me!!
how true, maybe that's what it's all about-life learning to forget ourselves in service to others. but it's a high goal.
ReplyDeleteSandy, I begin my day really well, reading your splendid post. What precious words.
ReplyDeleteYour words are beautiful... and many opf the comments are full of insight.
ReplyDeleteAs for me... I think love IS everything.
Trading all kinds of "stuff" for love is no big deal to me... trading love for all kinds of "stuff" would be both foolhardy and tragic.
we should always remember love, and to do things out of love, rather than for any other reason...
ReplyDeleteThank you for the inspiration, Sandy.
ReplyDeletehello sandy, i've come to visit for the first time and i am treated to the wisdom of love. i love the phrase. it says it all.
ReplyDelete:)
A marvellous message we should all listen to from time to time.
ReplyDelete"Trade everything for love." So pure and so true; love in every form.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful flower! And a great message! Everything for love, amen!
ReplyDeleteTrading everything for love, Sandy? For my husband, my nephews and my niece! :)
ReplyDeleteForgot to say the yellow flower is exquisite! :)
ReplyDeleteSandy, you are amazing...

Neat! I like how you mentioned the unsung heros who trade love for everything. They're all around us-if we just look.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful blessing Sandy! I wish everyone thought like that :)
ReplyDeleteMy BYB is up early on a different blog, and new url here:

Stop by if you can :) And have a wonderful upcoming week!
What else but love is worth having?
ReplyDeleteP.S. Sandy, depending on which list we are to believe on the OSI blog, tomorrow's prompt is EITHER Homecoming (top most prompt list, OR Spectacle (calender). At the risk of looking like I've waited until the last possible moment, can you let me know which is correct? =)

I'm thinking that maybe the hippie on the park bench is Jesus...He, after all, traded everything for love...the picture of the beautiful yellow flower makes me think of sunshine...or sonshine...
ReplyDeletehugs to you sweet Sandy!

I like that picture, but I really like the Electric Light Cat playing a guitar riff!

ReplyDeletevery nice; you must spend a lot of time outdoor with all the outside shots I see on your page today!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I guess that line could be the moral of my recent story series ("This Used to Be My Beach"). But you know what? I got it all back and then some. :-)
ReplyDeletePeace - D
I'll have to think about the tie in some more -- the words are a blessing but I am not sure I see the connection between the homeless sleeper and love. I am glad you found the blessing in it tho.
ReplyDeleteI am back to blogging and have my blessing up also. I will look for your last week's post too.
We saw the same picture... and yeah, had the same ideas, by the looks of it. I made a joke, but in essence, as much as sometimes it's not the right move, I'll follow love instead of logic. A goodly blessing today!
ReplyDeleteI went over to Michelle's blog and saw the image, and I agree with you trading everything for love is hard, but it is doable!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week ahead!
Aloha...finally found the time to post on my BYB Sunday! Mahalo for your visit even though I didn't have my post up yet. Your blog is always such a beautiful place to visit!
ReplyDeleteI love it. I gave it all for love myself a few times. Luckly, I grew out of it. LOL
ReplyDeleteTuesday I start treatment for my disease. Would you pray for me, Sandy? I am scared of the disease, not getting the treatment, getting the treatment and the side effects of the treatment.
it's all about love isn't it
ReplyDeletelife. uncomplicated.
Thanks for sharing this lovely blossom and the link to Michelle’s blog … all the images she shared were worth the visit, but the one you singled out is an amazing reminder for us all.
