This sunburst sculpture points to the heavens from outside the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Connecticut. The fountain on the other side mimics the shape of it. The pigeons enjoy the shade it offers.

Oh Sandy, great shot for skywatch. I don't have my post up for Skywatch yet but I will a little later. The sculpture (except for the color) looks like the Staute of Liberty's crown (which is usually green). Ha! :)

I can see the stegosaurus and the sunburst too, but what I really saw at first was a Jester's hat! But no matter what, its very interesting and so is the sky it frames.

Nice skywatch - I like the Calder. Well, the neat thing about art is that the viewer has as much a role in interpreting the art as the artist, so you can go ahead and interpret it as a sunburst. A neat thing about these Calder sculptures - he started off making mobiles, entranced by their lightness and the way they moved, and then started making these ground structures, which he called 'stabiles'. The amazing thing is that they still have the feeling of a mobile, changing as the viewer walks around it, and giving a feeling of lightness even though the steel is so heavy.
