A few weeks ago, I met a nature photographer who was standing in the exact place I like to stand when I take nature shots near our pond. He gave me the wonderful advice of simply paying attention to what's going on around me to find all kinds of life to photograph. I have taken his advice, and it has worked some kind of magic. I am discovering animals everywhere. In addition to the above images of wildlife in Connecticut, I've come across these fellow travelers:
1. Turkey vultures,
2. Muskrats,
3. Beaver,
4. Barn swalls,
5. Chickadees,
6. Foxes,
7. Deer,
8. Woodpeckers,
9. Seagulls (of course),
10. Deer,
11. Feral cats,
12. Rabbits, and
13. Horseshoe crabs.
I've seen all these creatures without wandering very far from my front step. So many I don't have pictures of many of them because I have come across them at dawn or dusk when I have been out for a walk without my camera. Perhaps I'll have the family album done before the end of summer.

Wow wow wow! Great photos! We have most of those birds in our park - we have a flock of Double Crested Cormorants - amazing birds, so sweet to each other and swim!! I'm hoping to see the babies learn to swim....

ReplyDeleteThere's a porcupine who keeps wandering by my mom's backyard. It would be a nice addition to your list.
ReplyDeletei like beavers and horse she crabs. muskrats are interesting!
ReplyDeleteLovely! We love to watch the wildlife around our house too. We have owls, falcons, road runners, hummingbirds, finches, quails, coyotes, squirrels, bunnies. Then we also have the ones we prefer not to see: mice, rats, tarantulas, rattlesnakes, garden snakes, and a few other snake varieties. We're in a canyon in Southern California.
ReplyDeleteSandy, I'm so glad you liked my idea for an ice cream recipe round up and that you'll be participating too. :-)

ReplyDeleteLots of neat photos. I've only seen half of the animals on your list. I just love chickadees.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! We've just recently started bird watching. Our newest visitor is a woodpecker who has a fondness for the metal topper on our gas chimney. At first we thought it was funny, but when he starts first thing in the morning, it's a little annoying ;D
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my TT!
That is so cool! Lots of wildlife and great pics.
ReplyDeleteExcellent photos. Yes, so many people go in search of the extraordinary and never find it. That's because they don't realise the normal can be extraordinary, if they look.
ReplyDeleteI love it...this just provesthat you never know what your are going to find when you open your eyes and simply pause and look!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my TT - Come back again soon!
Wow! Terrific photos Sandy! I too will be paying more attention on my own hikes and trying to get some wildlife shots for the Camera Critter meme I recently joined :)

So true! Sometimes, we just need to be still. How wonderful, Sandy!
ReplyDeleteLove the shots and I love that you used slide for the TT!
ReplyDeleteI think the advice was first class, I walked a bit yesterday and stopped to rest in a place I would not have stopped normally.. I was amazed at the pictures I took.. tiny flowers, insects and bugs, textures. I learned a good thing many years ago while out walking.. and that is to 'look back' see where you have walked from.. a completely different view.
ReplyDeleteWe are all still learning.
Sandy, these are wonderful. You are really becoming a great photographer. Your pictures are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteExcellent photos, good job...
ReplyDeleteGod Bless...
Great pictures, I guess I need to stop and see who is living in the desert where I live....
