I have sat in traffic outside the Superior Court in Waterbury, Connecticut, and admired these gigantic metal sculptures for a long time. Instead of staring, I took a picture.
Wow, how big are they? We have sculptures dotted through our city strrets (Wellington NZ) and my girls love to see them and touch them. Perhaps I will use them for a WW, thanks for the idea!
I must have missed them the last time I was up there fighting my speeding ticket. Hopefully I won't have to go again and can just enjoy them through your lovely photos.
Good questions, Mary! You must be an awesome teacher. These are metal sculptures. I took the pictures Sunday morning when the light was soft. When I rounded the corner of the building, I noticed the pattern of tree branches on the windows created another version of these images. I wondered if the sculptor was inspired by tree tops.
It does make me think of graffiti. Both are abstractions displayed on walls!
I was thinking of how nice it is that a public building is host to such work. Courthouses can be intimidating; it's nice this one calls us to remember something fine in ourselves as we drive by or pass through the doorway.
I can see why you stared. Trying to figure out how it's made would cause one to stare. Looks like old bed springs with the gold pieces attached. Okay, I'll admit it, I know nothing about art. Have a great WW. :)
You used your waiting time very well. Looking and photographing these beautiful work of arts are creative ways to use our precious time instead of indulging in idle thoughts. Thanks for sharing your photos. It's relaxing to look at them w/ out the jet-lag.
That sculpture is intriguing, but repiticious. Maybe they would like some of my 'Shell Art.' :-) .. I had another view of the 'Shell Art' on my regular blog, http://jimmiehov.blogspot.com/ ..
hey my friend, yeah, thats the very famous figure, landmark and the philippine's pride in which is the most favorite subject of artists...thanks for dropping by! have a nice wordless wednesday to you my friend!
Very impressive. Nice shot. Come by and see mine -- more of a statement, actually. I'm about to get a makeover and change my name. Tho't I'd let you know. Happy WW :)
They are very interesting... unique... kinda reminds me of chaos in man-made order... but I'm a bit whacky that way and probably dead-off from what the sculptor wanted.
those are good pictures-- the art itself fascinates me how does one come up w/ the concept? or is it random ?and if so when does one know one is finished? I do appreciate modern art just not the creation process of it.
I love that communities spend money on art work in public places. These are very interesting. I know I've never seen them before but they look familiar for some reason.
