Epic Prologue to Spring

Support Ukrainian artist Anna on Etsy

Storms have fronts.

What we hear about

Is how the storm comes

What it brings

There are perimeters

To storms

Beginnings and endings

Limits

Bound by time and space

Storms move on

Take us with them

Leave us behind

Leave us alone

Like this daffodil

Caught in a late winter

Squall

Tundra-like cold

That hardened

The earth

But eventually let go

And here we are

Effacing ourselves

Into a new time

Giving birth

To warmth and light,

But this daffodil drinking the sun

Was here the whole time

And saw it all,

And felt it, too.

Wishing peace for Ukraine

with a nod to Gilgamesh

Whose story might yet teach us

How to tame a monster
