Skywatch Friday: Good Night, Gentle Ones

Connecticut has witnessed one burial after another this week because good and innocent children and women were murdered by a rich white brat.  Day after day, hundreds upon hundreds of people have stood together in the name of decency and kindness and breathed new life into that tired word, community.

Yesterday evening, my daughter and I attended Sandy Hook School Principal Dawn Hochsprung's visiting hours in our hometown of Woodbury, where she was our neighbor and, once, my daughter's principal.  There her husband and family stood, tall and gracious, inviting and grateful.  It was our privilege to stand among them.  May peace come to their hearts.  And to ours.

    How incredibly sad. But as you've said, in times like this, community and a sense of hope are what keep people going, in spite of the pain. In a measure, in small but significant ways, it helps.

    You, your daughter and the whole community that has suffered so much at what is supposed to be the most beautiful, loving season of the year, are in my thoughts and prayers. It is hard to even imagine something like this happening - again and again and yet so many still yelling for more guns! It's sad, it's discouraging. When do we grow up??? This carries being a "young country" too far!!

    Thank you for sharing this heatfelt post...I do not know any one in Connecticut personally and yet have such a sense of pervading sadness.. I am so glad you are able to share this information so lucidly...it is a help.

    A real sad week for the many innocent life lost,hopefully something can be done in banning of those high powered guns.Could too much violent video games be one of the cause?

    Bless you for sharing this with us, Sandy. I can only imagine what your presence meant to the family! Our nation is heartbroken. I agree with President Obama that these tragedies must end.

    Oh Sandy! I was wondering how close you were to this sad tragedy! How many times have I cried about this. Today of all days I am thinking of those parents and all they have lost. It is so encouraging to see all the good people and the good things that are happening because of this, but I know as a mother I would trade it all just to have my child back!
