Land on the soft sand

Press hard toss and turn

To create

Holes.

They might make castles with the sand.

They might mark the perimeter of these holes

With ridges that stand

Until we penetrate them with our bare feet

And put the sand back where it belongs.

They might leave the sand in a heap as proof

Of what they have done.

Men with shovels,
