By the light of the room I'm in at the moment, this color photo could pass for black and white. I like when that happens. The subject of the photo is what it is at the same time it is an abstraction of itself because the light says so. Here the fisherman is in stark contrast with the radiant dawn light rolling in with the waves. He is nothing, but he believes the ocean will bring him gifts if only he shows up and tries. He is very likely correct.

Great photo. I love the way you put it that the subject is an abstraction of itself. It is all about the light.
ReplyDeleteAnd the subject of fishing, you only have a chance of a catch them if you show up and put your hook in the water, and even then it may not work. That is why they call it fishing and not "catching."
I don't always comment, but I look at EVERY photo you take in the summer at Topsail. They are absolutely gorgeous. I copied and saved this one to use as my screensaver. I put your name on it. If not okay...please let me know.

ReplyDeleteWhat a good capture of the Laughing Gull. That sky blue background really sets off the black and white of the gull. They are so handsome in their breeding plummage. I like the second photo of the fisherman too. I was surprised that it wasn't b&w.

ReplyDeleteWe loved the laughing gulls, which we discovered when we spent our first winter in Texas.
Having the fisherman in the picture makes the whole thing look dramatic.
